What are the top 5 gun friendly states?

Well if you look at the Brady report card their lowest ranked states, which would indicate they have the best gun laws, are Utah, Arizona, Alaska, which are tied for spot 50. Then the following are tied for 47:

T*47 IDAHO
T*47 KENTUCKY
T*47 LOUISIANA
T*47 MONTANA
T*47 NORTH*DAKOTA
T*47 OKLAHOMA

I believe Utah was the first to get a zero score from the Brady campaign. One could debate the subtle differences between those ranked 50 and the others.

So best gun laws are the above states are the least anti-gun states in the Union?

I expect California is probably one of the worst :banghead::scrutiny:

There are other indications like the Company Ruger is going to build another factory in another state and the Company Magpul? is pulling out of the state it is currently in because they don't want to contribute to these anti-gun laws. I think that state is Colorado. So I look at some of these indicators.

What are the top 5 anti-gun states out of all 50 states?

I think the title to this thread and your first post question contradict each other....

In no particular order are the worst states for gun ownership off of the top of my head.

New York
New Jersey
California
Hawaii
Massachusetts
Illinois
Delaware
Maryland
Connecticut

Colorado is currently in limbo but it looks like they'll be with the latter soon if they don't get the bill that was signed into effect in July changed.

Indeed, Magpul is (mag)pulling out of Colorado. They haven't named a new location yet, though the smart money is on Wyoming, Montana or Utah. Also, Beretta and LWRCi are pulling out of MD for similar reasons.

Glad to see my adopted state of Oklahoma is at the very bottom of the list.

I still don't understand the question. The title says top five "friendly" states. The post asks for the worst 5.

If you want the top 5 friendliest states it would probably be a 10-12 way tie. Lots of states with good laws. Each has their own little quirks. Georgia is pretty good, but has a few things that could be better. Living here, and being used to our laws it isn't that much of a problem for me, but could be a major headache for someone living in another state with different laws.

thanks...I guess I should keep it simple and just change question to which top 5 states are the most gun friendly.

Shouldn't Tennesse be in there too with Wyoming?

They do indeed. My response was to the question of the thread title.

The inverse question of which is the worst:

The Brady state report card is as follows for their "best" which would mean most anti:

1
1.CALIFORNIA
2 NEW*JERSEY
3 MASSACHUSETTS
4 NEW YORK
5 CONNECTICUT

However, this is from 2011 and some states passed some significant restrictions since then. Notably New York.

Colorado passed some stupid new laws but it cannot even hold a candle to silly gun laws of: CA, NY, NJ, etc

You can look at the criteria the brady campaign used on their website.

I tend to look at the following as meaningful to me:

Do states have arbitrary (and often cosmetic feature based) so called assault weapon bands?

Do states have arbitrary magazine capacity restrictions?

Can one own and use NFA items?

How are local sheriffs about signing off on NFA items?

When, where, and how can one carry without a permit?

Is the state shall issue?

Where can one carry with a permit?

Reciprocity with other states?

Any silly limits on number of guns one can purchase in a given period or waiting periods?

Requirements that guns have particular and pointless features such as LCIs etc.

What are a states self defense laws?

What are the prevailing attitudes and trends in prosecutions of arguable self defense cases?

A pretty good early indicator of how states are going to shake out with that criteria is whether they are red or blue on the map.

Virginia is currently pretty good but may go downhill fast depending on the outcome of this years gubernatorial election.

For me, it really comes down to CCW permits. Those who don't require them to carry concealed (Constitutional Carry) are at the top of my list for most gun-friendly:

Vermont
Alaska
Wyoming
Arizona
Arkansas

Outside of Constitutional Carry, many are about the same.

EDIT: Oh! I almost forgot campus carry. That jettisons Utah and Colorado up with those other 5.

The OP's question is definitely contradicting.

But I believe Alaska and Vermont are in the top 5 friendly states. I'd say TX and FL are close as well.

On the flip side, NJ/NY/CA are on the top 5 un-friendly states. Places I would never move to...

KY is where I chose to live because of it's gunfriendly laws, I got my CCDW because Tennessee was as not gun friendly as one would think and I had to travel/work there often. I was raised in FL and you have to have ccw there to carry. I love that I don't have to worry if my carry piece prints or if too hot to conceal, I don't.

so these are the best states pro guns. Unlike California that is anti-gun.
