In describing to the uninitiated this sport that we do, I have often lacked the word that best names our little group. Are we shooters, gunners, gun-buffs (which implies we collect but do not play), front-sighters, iron-hogs, 2nd Amendmenters (which does not necessarily mean we shoot), lead-lovers, squeezers (I kinda like that one, it's one of those terms those in the know would get), or something just truly bizarre? Not all of us hunt? Not all of us collect. But I think most of us actually shoot. So what are we?

I think "shooters" is the norm. I still like "Squeezers" though that might require explanation which is not always a bad thing. It leaves an opening to educate others and maybe -- *gasp* arouse their curiosity.

I refer to myself as a shooter and/or hunter as the context demands.

Or could just say "participants in shooting sports". Long, but innocuous.

Sport. Activity? You see? We are woefully lacking in labels. Perhaps that's why we all enjoy shooting. We are difficult to catagorize.

Wild eyed gun freak?

Shooter. One who shoots.

Rifleman: one who rifles.
Riflewoman: a female who rifles.
Riflebeing: politically correct rifleman/riflewoman.

How about a 'Gun Advocate'. My co-workers(and boss) just call me a 'Gun Nut'. My wifes cousins call me a 'Gun Know-It-All'. My wife calls me a .......uhhh......well.......we'll leave that out of this.:D

I am a shooter more than anything. I love to shoot. Even as a kid I would spend hours shooting pellets at paper. It is fun for me.

'Gun guy'... I've never been a big fan of the 'gun nut' moniker though I'm not offended by it. Actually, I think the biggest thing is I just like the way mechanical things work and how a 1911 feels when the slide is eased back and it delicately bit firmly strips off the top round from the magazine. And the way a properly fitted trigger glides back in the frame and the solid 'snap' them hammer makes when it falls on an empty chamber...

Never mind... I'm a gun nut... :D

I like the brotherhood of freedom.... kinda has a ring to it (or does that remind me of a terorist groups name? )

To hear some of these fools on the opposite side of personal responsibility, we already ARE terrorists.
To butcher a famous quote:
IF THIS BE TERRORISM, I SAY-MAKE THE MOST OF IT!

Letmesee ...

The Wife & I prolly shoot maybe 1000 rounds a year - all told, but what we do shoot is of a quality.

We verify what we make & what we want to accomplish.

100% hits, at long range.

Handgun stuff is really a mere "thing that goes boom!" & we're all over that.

Serious pratice means rifles & that at a distance.

I kinda like 12 Volt Man's American ...

Ala Dan's Brotherhood of Freeom also has a nice ring to it...

Let me add that I don't think of myself as a 2nd Ammendment supporter. As a member of said Brotherhood (and let us be sufficiently PC as to include our Sisters in this group) I support all the rights delineated in the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution... not forgetting that as originally defined these rights were not granted to us by the government... they were considered God-given - pre-existing before any government came into being - and the only reason for listing them was to specifically prohibit our government from infringing them. Something they do all the time anyway, despite clear instructions to the contrary. And let us also remember that as originally drafted the list was not intended to be exhaustive... other rights not listed were also considered to trump any government attempt at restrictions.

Long-winded... sorry. Just wanted to make the point that this brotherhood supports the entire Bill of Rights... we don't support all but the 2nd Ammendment as so many are prone to do.
