Looking at getting into reloading these calibers and looking for suggestions on powders. Also .300 win mag and 45 Colt.

Thanks

9 Para:
Vihtavuori N320, N330, N340, 3N37
Hodgdon HP38

45acp:
Vihtavuori N310, N320, N340

223rem
Vihtavuori N130, N140

all depending on bullet weight/barrel length

Anything pistol I go with W231. For 223 Ive been using H322 and it has worked great. Would be a great powder for 308 as well. For 300win H1000 has been good for me.

9mm, 45ACP: Accurate #5
.223/5/56: Accurate 2230
.308: Accurate 2460

I love how accurate powders meter. I have found none better.

p.s. one more: .44 mag: Accurate #9

Unique in 9mm, .45ACP, and .45 Colt, although you could substitute BE-86 for all 3 of those.

5.56mm is H335

7.62mm is IMR3031, .308 is IMR4064, although you could bridge both with IMR4895.

That is not to say those powders are the best for every application... like IMR4895. It works, but depending on the rifle and bullet weight, IMR3031 or IMR4064 is a better choice in my example. Same-same x100 with pistol ammos, it really depends on what you are loading and your expectations... target loads, or full-house? Heavy bullets (i.e. 147's in the 9mm,) or light bullets? 2" barrel, or 6" barrel? Those are all factors when choosing a good powder.

Unfortunately, we are in a market now that you typically have to take what you can get... full shelves of powder are hard to find.

9 - Titegroup
45 - W231, W244
223 - H335, BL-C(2), Benchmark, W748 (many work well, can't decide)
308 - not enough experience with it yet.

9mm: VVN320, HP38
45acp: HP38, WST
223: H335, VVN133, Varget
308: Varget, IMR4895

9mm WSF, N330, Silhouette
.45 acp HP38, AA#2, N320
.223 TAC, BL-C(2), 8208, H335

I don't reload .308 but TAC has listed loads in .308, BLC(2) does as well. (8308 and H335 might as well but I don't know on them offhand)

What bullets are you using with H322? I can’t get anything better than 1” groups with 55 ballistic tips.

I don't load 9mm anymore, but Unique is what I used.
45 ACP: Bullseye, AA#5, Unique.
.223: BL-C(2), Varget, IMR 3031, IMR 4064, Power Pro Varmint, and AA2230.
.308: Never loaded it. I'd probably use IMR 4064 and Varget.

My favorite powder for 9x19 is True Blue.

My favorite powder for 45 ACP is 700-X.

My favorite powder for 308 Winchester is W748.

My favorite powder for 223 Remington depends on the bullet. For 55 grain FMJ's, I use Accurate 2230.

My favorite powder for 45 Colt is Unique.

Also, I use alot of Unique in various handgun cartridges. For most cartridges that I load, I have one or two alternates that I'm happy with in case I cannot find my favorite.

But, lots of folks have already posted information and their choices of powders are as valid as mine. I've tried many of them and they have performed well. I have my reasons for stocking my choices.

Want something to do more than one caliber?

9mm, 45 acp and 45 colt - HP38/Win231

223, 308, 300 rem mag - Varget.

Those take care of it!

Heres the caveat, these are good in some but not all. For example the hp38 mentioned is great in 9mm and 45 acp for me, but the colt could use something a little slower. I like HS6 for that one.

On the rifle loads Varget is good on 223 and 308. The catch here is it will only be suitable for lighter projectiles (think 165 and less) on the 300 win mag. I like Retumbo for magnum rifle loads. 200 grain accubond is the lightest I've loaded with that powder in the 300 win mag. Works better for me in ultra mags honestly.

If youre new to reloading, getting a couple load manuals is highly recommended. Also, all powders i've listed here are Hodgdon brand. It's what my mentor used and I have a bit of an attachment. Some of these listed are quite popular, translation: hard as heck to find right now. Wouldn't hurt to branch out, you're forced to sometimes when some things aren't available.

Ive had really good success with Hornady V-Max 50gr (and Z-Max) with 23.0gr of H322. Out of my Remington 700 ADL Varmint they are leaving the barrel at 3150fps. They are 3/4 MOA at 200yds. They would probably be better if I practiced more and need to get a better stock (flexes as it gets warmer and groups open up) Also some bulk Hornady 55gr SP have patterned very well with some trial and air. I keep them a bit slower. 2900fps with 21.3gr of H322.

Thanks! I have 50gr Z max I will try with the H322. It doesnt like anything 55gr at all.

9mm Luger- Unique
45acp-Unique
223/5.56- IMR 4198 or 3031 in gas guns (I’ve nearly phased out the 4198 though)
308/7.62- IMR 3031 for my model 88, and IMR 4895 for gas operated

I don’t have a lot of experience with other powders, I settled in to these pretty quick.
