I did a quick search to see if this is a dupe...I don't think it is. Thankfully no deaths from this attack.

Australian teens attack school with machetes and baseball bats

Machete-wielding teens attack Australian school

SYDNEY (Reuters) - A group of teenagers armed with baseball bats and machetes attacked Australian teachers and students on Monday, injuring 18 people and forcing a high school in Sydney to be locked down, police said.

Five youths barged into the morning assembly at Merrylands High School in south-west Sydney, witnesses said, grabbing students before starting to smash windows at the school.

The school then locked its students in classrooms as the youths, who were not students, went through two school buildings, smashing more windows and equipment, police said.

"They caused a considerable amount of damage," a police spokesman told reporters. "There have been some assaults. But there are no serious injuries as a result of those assaults."

Attacks on schools are rare in Australia, where schoolyard security is usually low-key but south-western Sydney has a growing youth-gang problem.

Ambulance officers treated 18 people for minor injuries, including cuts from shattered glass, and shock, but one student and one teacher were taken to hospital with minor facial injuries and severe bruising.

Dozens of distressed parents rushed to the school, some in tears, police said.

Police arrested five boys, aged 14 to 16, after the attack.

It goes to show... if someone wants to attack, it doesn't matter if they have guns, knives, bats, forks, fingernails, or condoms filled with water and frozen, they are going to attack.

The "youth-gang" thuggery after gun bans seems to be a pattern. In the liberal-dreamed up "world without guns", brute force beats everything else. That is a tribal/feudal world. That is the world that existed before guns. "youth-gang" == tribe. It is the unintended consequence that anti-2nd folk refuse to admit.

not necessarily..

I'm sorry, it's not clear to me that the leaders of the gun-control agenda don't understand that.. I'd say the rank and file probably don't.. but many of the leaders have an
agenda above and beyond.. what's scary is that such agendas are not publically discussed, ever.. they might lose a lot of their supporters, if their supporters truly knew
where their leaders were headed.. sigh..

Correct. I, for one, suspect that the Bradys are heavily invested in youth gangs.

In all seriousness, though, you are totally right about the gangs thing.

what are they going to ban baseballbats and machette's???.... but on a real note that is more proof that guns are just tools and if they are not there theres always another way to cause damage with anoher tool.

what are they going to ban baseballbats and machette's???....

Maybe...the Brits are currently banning samurai swords aren't they? Aussie's aren't huge on baseball...the public might get worried if it was cricket bats.

note to dewage83... base ball bats are all in the crime zone in ca,

if you are pulled over and a base ball bat is found in your car it = a weapon and you go to jail...

.but if you have a used base ball glove and a "used" base ball or three. then no crime.

and now england is banning knives and "sticks" (they do not play base ball there) ( i belive "sticks" is the correct term in there ver of base ball) you know the thing that looks like a boat ore.

.

condoms filled with water and frozen

That's one even I wouldn't have thought of. They'll probably ban it in England though.

Eventually, if we let them ban every thing, including leaving your home for any reason, they will make the average citizen safe.

To play Devil's advocate for just a minute...

Think how that would have gone if 5 teenage boys armed with guns had attacked the school. Worse than 18 injured? Most likely.

Guns don't cause crimes, we all know that, but how do we counter the agument that they contribute to more deadly and larger scale crimes?

Think how it would have gone of 2 or 3 of the teachers had been armed.

Our best hope is that we keep ourselves armed to at least the same degree as the bad guys.

That's absolutely true, and it was one of the first things I thought when I read the article.

However, it does show the mindset of the violent offender. Someone who wants to commit an act of violence will find a way regardless of the legality of the method being employed.

I went through this discussion with an anti-gun person I know recently concerning a different incident closer to home that didn't make the national news. It was a simple case of a playground fight nearly ending in one child being burned alive. The other child dowsed the kid with lighter fluid purchased at a nearby convenience store. Fortunately the disposable lighter purchased at the same time didn't work, and the kid (victim) got away safely with nothing more serious than a bit of chemical irritation. The perpetrator was arrested and I have heard nothing else about the final disposition of the whole incident.

If some one wants to do harm they will find a way.

Agreed. Which is why legislation that addresses the tools used, rather than a system which addresses the what and why of that which leads a group of teen-aged kids to attack a school, is foolish.

They left one detail out that is important. If this follows the pattern of late for that part of Australia. It was probably muslims.

Here is a link to a lengthier article that also has video. I also couldn't help but notice the "meat cleaver" robbery listed in the upper right-hand corner of the page...

Machete Attack

They left one detail out that is important. If this follows the pattern of late for that part of Australia. It was probably muslims.

Or...in the absence of any other information...it could just as easily have been a gang of skinhead types looking to harm an immigrant Muslim. Which is also part of the "pattern" of violence in Sydney over the last couple of years.

The mother of a year 11 student said she had been called to the school by her son on his mobile phone shortly after the attack.

He told her the five young men had smashed windows and assaulted a teacher, she said.

Teachers had since confiscated mobile phones from students, she said.

Holly Moran, whose son also goes to the school, said her son had told her the school had seen the men approaching on school cameras.

Why confiscate the phones, other than keeping the happenings quiet? What is typical lockdown procedure at schools where all the kids have phones?

If they did have fair warning by seeing the kids coming, just think of what only one gun could have prevented let alone an armed populace.

how about a sock full of batteries, or an empty glass bottle?

if you think about it, anything becomes a weapon. didnt the school have security gaurds? heck, i know at my school we dont have gaurds but a few really big gym teachers.

im talking like 7' 1'' abd about 280 lbs.

Sydney schools, other than the Jewish schools, do not have security. One school that had a problem with stabbings hired armed security. They were made to dismiss them by the state govt. because it put the govt. in a bad light.

As to the attack being made by people of arabic descent, that is quite possible, as the press here tend to report the racial background of offenders except when they are from the middle east. Tim Blair has made note of this on his blog several times.

We have very few skin heads, they are a hang over from the seventies and were put out of business in the 90's when their leader killed a member and lectured the corpse on how stupid he was. Fortunately our secret service (ASIO) had bugged their premises and was able to convict The even stupider leader for the murder. I haven't seen a Skin in over ten years.

The Jewish schools are protected by the Jewish militia (licenced security companies run by ex-IDF soldiers & paid for by the jewish community).
