What bodily damage have you received from your guns?

Hammer bite, train tracks, Blackhawk knuckle, brass burn on various surfaces of the body, etc. The most painful mishap (happened more than once), has been holstering a bit of excess flesh with the weapon. :banghead:

first real rifle I owned

was a Remington 700 in 30.06. I put a cheap scope on a set of "see thru" rings (the kind that mount the scope up high so you can still use iron sights) and took it to the range to sight in. Just a few rounds later, the scope was turning in the rings (guess somebody didn't tighten the screws down enough...)

That's okay, my incredible foresight in buying see-through rings saved the day! I'll just look under the scope, use the iron sights, and...

First time I squeezed the trigger, the recoil drove the scope into my forehead. I had adequate eye relief while using the scope, but when I snuggled down to use the the iron sights, neglected to provide "head relief".

I gained:
--a nice 1/2 scope-shaped "smile" on my forehead, and
--a whole new respect for the recoil of a 30.06

oh yeah, and... quite a nifty little headache. Pretty much ended festivities for the day.

As I'd heard so much about it from my dad's time in the Army,I decided to give myself a case of M1 thumb. Not recommended:eek:

I got a nice little scar on the top of my left thumb from putting the bolt assembly back into a MK19, because you have to push down on the sear so it'll go in and the sear just happens to be directly below the bolt. sliced my thumb up real good cleaning my 11-87, a sharp rail somewhere inside the reciever, closed the bolt of my mossburg 500 on my thumb, didn't draw blood but hurt like crazy. got wacked in the nose by my savage's scope, again no blood drawn. nice scar on left arm just above elbow from a airsoft rifle. and while trying to carry a MK19 while it was on a tripod down a flight of stairs took the barrel right to the boys, came close to blacking on that one.

I have a healed over scar on my trigger finger from an extended airweight shooting session a long time ago.It actually healed over and made kind of a callous.....I also have the "love handle mark" from ccw.....

Top release on a side by side bit me between the thumb and finger while shooting both barells from the hip.

A FN HP bit me.

Redhawk .41 bit my finger

Received some hot brass down my shirt too.

Nothing major :D

8 years old & 2 broken fingers from firing a Daisy lever BB gun....with the lever left cocked....just to see what would happen if I did it... OWW!!!! Forget shootin' yer eye out!

My current favorite is the cut I get on my thumb from shooting hopped up loads in my .45 Vaquero...the frame just cuts the dickens out of me when it comes snapping back!! Gotta invest in some shooting gloves.......

Marine Corps Boot Camp 1971...the DI's only told us stuff ONCE.

Some clown had his thumb sticking down while doing "Dress Right", instead of tucked up along the forefinger where it belonged.

"Allright, Girls......everybody down on one knee!"

"Private Schmadagotz doesn't want to listen and follow directions when we tell you pukes to keep your thumb along the forefinger."

"Everybody lock the bolt on your (M-14) rifle to the rear."

"Now, stick your thumb into the receiver."

"Now, let 'em go home!"

"Back on your feet!"

"Dress Rigggghhht, DRESS!!"

"Better!"

I left out all sorts of comments in the interest of not having Art's Grammaw slam my thumb in a chamber, again.

I have a broken tooth from a UZI malfunction had a jamb and the round got hung on the bolt and i hit the trigger while pulling the bolt back causing it to fire and the round exploded the case peeling it open hitting me in the teeth and lodgeing in my tounge I bled like a stuck pig

That darn CZ-52 slide assembly just absolutely explodes on me if my screwdriver slips while compressing the recoil spring. Sporting a current gouge on my left hand from that one. Cuts on the occasional sharp part and pinches have been the most common.

I recommended a pair of the slashresistant but high-dexterity mechanic's gloves I use working on my car to someone with one of those. They were very happy, saved them a nasty cut.

Not one that happened to me, but one I'd seen, at least...a college friend in Air Force ROTC, on the drill squad. Tried to show off a move, spun their Springfield, and cracked themselves upwards HARD on the chin with the buttstock, knocked themselves out cold.

Powder burn on the forehead above my right eye from being poorly black powder self edicated.
Severe tinitus from the same educational shortcoming

Burn marks from spent brass(LH shooter), M1 thumb for hi power comp. , cuts to my nose and cheek(PT140 Kb'ed), cut my finger slamming a 1911 mag home. (caught between the mag and grip. )

Ripping my thumbnail off when loading my SKS with stripper clips.

Have a scare on my leg from blowing up a 22short round with a hammer and nail when I was 8.

M1 Thumb

tsk! All these M1 Thumbs! Easy to avoid if ya know how...

Back of your hand goes against the curve of the op rod handle. Thumb pushes the clip home. Roll the hand up and out of the way. Most of the time, ya gotta hit the back of the op rod handle to put the bolt in battery.

And all this time ya'll thought the handle was shaped like that so just you could hook your finger around it to pull the bolt outta battery. tsk!

oorah..

Scar from a scope too close and no lasting damage but a heck of a brusied and sore thumb one time from a bolt carrier oh and a badly cut finger from opening a sardine can of 7.62.

About 10 years ago, I learned that if you release the bolt of an M1 Garand with a finger in the way, the whole rifle will dangle from your hand as you jump from your chair and dance in a circle shouting vulgarities.

I also have a small scar on my right thigh from a .22 rim-fire ricochet.

M1 thumb? HA! It even has a name. It's nice to know I'm not alone in my bumbling.

Yanked the receiver cover off a SKS with the bolt retracted once. Missed my... uh... *cough*... by about an inch. I'm a member of OMT. I also had a string of .223 casings from a Ruger... whatever the FA variant of the Mini-14 is go straight down the back of my shirt.

Was just trying to push the spring loaded gas piston on an SKS back and it ripped my fingernail up and outta place. That was the most pain I felt in a while.

Couple of minor boo-boos

Not MY gun, but - - I was RO in a match when I caught about half a 9mm bullet jacket in my left forearm. Another shooter had hit a metal stop plate just so . . . . Didn't even notice til another shooter said, "John, your bleedin'." Pulled out the fragment, poured some Diet Coke on the wound, went on with the match.

A friend fired off a full 50 round drum from my Thompson in two l o o o n g bursts. He had a real silly grin on his face as he handed me back the gun. I stupidly took it by the foreend, reaching OVER rather then under. Luckily we were standing on grass, 'cause it don't take me long to look at a hot SMG. Four parallel deep burns on my palm from the cooling fins.
