What classes are you taking in 2006?

I hope to take a local class on tactical rifle and pistol work. Anyone know if H&K takes civillians at their VA location?

From the H&K Training Group website:
Enrollment in all courses is restricted to regular and reserve law enforcement officers, federal agents, and military personnel of the United States and friendly and allied nations. Qualified civilian security professionals are eligible for some courses by special arrangement.

When I have attended course there, no civilians. Sorry.

Hopefully, I will take:

LFI class with Jim Cirilo

I say those only because they are quite close to me. I'm near Chicago. :uhoh:

Where and when is the LFI class with Jim Cirillo?

I can only in the midwest, they usually hold it at Darnalls Range in Bloomington, Illinois. I would've taken it last fall but I had just taken LFI Advanced Handgun Skills I and couldn't afford to spend the money like that on back to back weekends.

Andy, one of the LFI staff instructors, said that Jim Cirillo is like "a modern day Wyatt Earp."

To clarify:

Midwest Training Group is run by LFI instructors and offers both classes in the LFI curriculum and classes by traveling trainers (that are not part of the LFI curriculum). The Cirillo class falls into the latter category - as do the Farnam and Hackathorn classes on this season's schedule.

Well, this year I wanna get all my paperwork done and become a police officer..it will probably not get it all done this year but hoping to at least be ready for the academy..

Advanced Pistol (3 day)
Advanced Tactical Rifle (3 day)
JKD Concepts all year long (Thai, Boxing, Jun Fan, BJJ, Shoot Wrestling, Aiki, Kali, Silat, etc.)

I'm wanting to do one of SouthNarc's seminars if I can fit it in, and a class on field first aid sounds like just the thing too, I wonder if I can find one of those anywhere near VA?

This season on SHOOTING GALLERY, we've got the following training-focused episodes:

Week of 9 Jaunary — Michael Janich on point-shooting. I learned a TON of stuff putting this one together! Janich worked with Rex Applegate and co-wrote Applegate's last book.

Week of 16 January — Birth of a new Machine...not a training piece per se (it's on the new S&W M&P semiauto), but we did a couple of excellent training segments with Dave Spaulding (HANDGUN COMBATIVES), who I promise you'll be seeing more of.

Week of January 30 — Mastering the Production Gun, with production ace David Olhasso. I was really impressed with the depth of David's understanding of working the DA/SA trigger on production guns and his ability to instruct.

I try to get some "take home value" in all the shows. We're doing a bunch more training for the second half of the year:

GUNSITE's combat shotgun course; training with Jeff Gonzales from TRIDENT; Bill Murphy (who runs SureFire's low light training program and is just a brilliant instructor); Andy Stanford from Options for Personal Security; Ken Hackathorn in his first appearance on SHOOTING GALLERY and my friend of many years, Jim Cirillo.

We're also putting together an episode on the snubby revolver for defensive use and a special custom "Advanced Concealed Carry Scenarios" class with Rob Pincus at Valhalla, featuring the ubiquitous Walt Rauch and author and president of the new Detonics corporation Jerry Ahern, who literally wrote the book on concealed carry.

I guess maybe next year I can do "Trick Shot of the Week!"

Just finished: Tac-Pro Shooting Center's Force on Force class (November).

Classes I hope that money and time will allow me to take in 2006 in order:

Any Pat Rogers carbine course
Advanced Pistol in July at Tac-Pro Shooting Center
South-Narc unarmed and close quarters shooting
AR15 Armorer's Course (if I can find a respectable one that is affordable)

All of those three are ones I will take as soon as I have both the money and the time. It seems like whenever I have the money, I have no time and whenever I have time, I have no money.

Has anyone here had any experience with Tac Pro Shooting Center?
I have been considering some classes there this year, but would like some unbiased feed back about them before investing time and money.

I'm always interested to read other like-minded people's training priorities. So, what classes are you planning to take next year and why?

For myself, I'm going to focus on some more Tactical Medical classes. Being able to patch holes is just as important as being able to make them.
Hopefully law school classes. Applying now.

I figure I can do more for gun rights as a wealthy lawyer than as an engineer.

I've taken Primary Pistol, Intermediate Pistol, Primary Carbine, and Force-on-Force there. Great instruction and facilities. The pistol classes are particularly good.

Going to TDI this spring.

I'm saving my shekels for tuition and ammo for Tactical Defence Institute's Handgun I-III this spring. I can use a refresher for the part one, learn something new from two and three, hopefully. TDI seems to have a good reputation and I carry a handgun quite a bit, nearly 7 days a week, so it makes sense to get some training. Last I had has courtesy of uncle sam several years ago. I regret waiting so long, only to find out there is a school just a few hours away.

I wish...too busy teaching 6 graduate courses, but--

The "professional" courses are quite simply out of my price range as a professor. I seek courses here in the Michigan area, such as the "Point Shooting" course that was offered by the county S.W.A.T. director.

He gave 1 hour of lecture, followed by quick Q&A. Then, we had 2 hours of actual (front & rear sights taped over) point shooting 300 rounds; followed by another 30 minutes of Q&A.

All of this for $150.00! In economics terms, that's called "point of rationality", getting the most for the least. I'm not inferring that Gun Site and others are not worth the money; I'm sure they are, but its just out of my financial league.

im taking Blackwater USA's Executive Protection Course in two weeks, in Moyock, NC.

Class is 5 days long....tuition is $1300. add in a plane ticket, hotel, rental car, and meals, and we're over $2000. i went there in 2004 for armorer school and i was impressed by their staff. lots of credentials and great instruction, with no attitude.

Tactical Tracking 2 in Alabama David Scott-Donelan
Tactical Carbine in Alabama Louis Awerbuck
Whatever I can fit into my shedule with Tiger McKee of Shootrite.

Strongly considering BSR driving instructor course in August.
Maybe something with Scott Reitz if time and money hold up.

Byron Quick,

If you don't mind, when are you going? PM me if you prefer.

Have you been there before? If so, how's the training?

Doc2005, Lou Chiodo is doing a class in SE Michigan coming up. I've never taken one of his classes, but everyone I know who has was pleased.

I can dig out the info if you want, just let me know.

Relatively easy semester - plan to take more engineering courses in Spain over the summer

I certainly hope that your instructors speak English if you are anywhere near the usual fluency level at the end of Spanish 101. Few people could take Spanish 102 in Spanish at that point.

Fly320s, I'm talking Defensive Handgun on April 5-6 and Defensive Carbine on April 7-8. I've never been there before. I was impressed with Tiger's "The Book of Two Guns."

Going to Nursing School this upcoming year. After I graduate, thinking about taking TR's Basic Handgun, and Urban Rifle I courses.

Speaking as a registered nurse, you have my sympathy. Get ready for an advanced education in ambiguity.
