what company makes a better 243 ?

Tough to beat Savage for out of the box accuracy, at any price for off the rack guns.

I know this post is old and you have probably already gotten a gun, but imo, the Savage Model 10 with the accu trigger is the way to go for a .243. Throw a decent scope on there and you will have a tackdriver with a great factory trigger. I just don't think you can do any better for the price.

That said, the Ruger American would probably be my second choice. They are getting a lot of great reviews, but I've not had my hands on one yet.

Have you checked out the offerings from CZ? I love their full stocked rifles. Easy to mount a scope on one also. Extraordinary fit and finish.
