Seven For Sure

Kahr's, Glock's or S&W revolver's. All I need to do is pull the trigger and they go bang. Bang bang bang bang bang...

Exact same guns, carried the same way. Makes it simple (no safeties) just a trigger to pull.

The Conditions of Readiness were defined by Jeff Cooper to apply to single-action, manual safety, semi-auto, pistols; such as the M1911 or Hi-Power.

  • Condition Zero: Loaded magazine in place, a round chambered, hammer cocked, safety off
  • Condition One: Loaded magazine in place, a round chambered, hammer cocked, safety on
  • Condition Two: Loaded magazine in place, a round chambered, hammer down
  • Condition Three: Loaded magazine in place, chamber empty
  • Condition Four: Chamber empty, no magazine

These conditions don't entirely apply to double action autos, autos without a manual safety, or revolvers.

HK USP45 Compact (v1=SA/DA), round in the chamber, hammer down, safety on. I spend a considerable amount of time at the range practicing the firing sequence: take safety off while drawing, begin taking up trigger slack, weapon on target, fire DA first shot, fire SA follow up.

I practice, practice, practice so that it happens EVERY time. I do additional practice at home unloaded with snap caps as well so that the sequence is automatic.

The practice presenting your weapon from it carry condition (whatever that may be) and getting off that first shot is possibly your most critical personal defense skill. You have to do it without thinking, your reaction has to be automatic. They say it takes about 10,000 cycles from something to become an "unconcious habit".

Kahr PM9 - DAO - Condition 2 -She's got a pretty long pull
Beretta Tomcat DA/SA - Condition 2 - Great conceal BUG. Not much in the firepower department though.

This way my finger IS the Safety.
