What do you carry in your .45acp?

Remington Golden Sabre 230 Grain, I have several High end 1911's Ed Brown, Wilson, Nighthawk Custom, Les Baer, every one of them has chocked with Hornady TAP FPD 230 grain, I love that ammo but I run at least 300 rounds of different carry ammo through a pistol before I will carry it. It runs fine in all until I get past 200 or so, I feed my Glock 21 that stuff. Federal P45HST1 has choked all of them after a couple of hundred rounds as well, The Remington Golden Sabre feeds fine through all of my 9 1911's and I have put at least 500 rounds of 230 Grain Golden saber through each of them and get excellent accuracy and 100 percent reliability with it that is why I will stick with it :)

federal bonded tactical 230 gr +p. The fact that two old windbags (one of whom is dead) means nothing to me.

Might as well say George Washington used a Kentucky rifle.

230 gr. and 165 gr. Hydra-Shoks, whichever is available. Hydra-Shok is the brand the local police use. I think one of the gunwriters, Ayoob maybe, has suggested that this might be a good strategy to avoid accusations of brutal overkill from an excited prosecutor... in the unlikely event you have to shoot an assailant.
Nah, then the prosecutor will say you didn't have sufficient training to use the same hot load as a trained law enforcement officers.

An "excited prosecutor" will say anything he thinks he needs to, to try and make his case against you.

Yep. If you use the ammo the cops use, you are trying to be a cop. If you don't, you are being unsafe for using something a cop wouldn't use. These are the hairs the lawyer will split when he is trying to nail you with a weak case.

I use 230 gr HSTs. But I think the real world difference between different JHPs or even 230 gr hardball for that matter is often very small. If your gun will cycle 200 rounds of a particular round error free, it is good enough to carry. ALL gun and ammo combinations will fail eventually.

I've used a number of different .45 ACP loads in my personally-owned and issued .45's over the years.

Most recently I've used either Remington's 230gr Golden Sabre or Winchester's 230gr T-series. Why?

Simple. Because they were both issued loads where I worked. I've carried others prior to them that were issued, too.

My immediate concerns are a good quality factory load using a good hollow point which provides for optimal functioning in my .45's, preferably one of the better 'premium' defensive rounds, given my druthers ... and getting consistently good hits on the intended target.

Doesn't matter who makes the load, or what bullet it uses, if it doesn't feed & function well in my .45's and I can't get the hits, though.

I usually carry 230 grain HydraShocks, but I have carried hardball from time to time and would again.

230 grain ball, and to be quite honest,

Whichever brand doesn't seem to make much difference,

Although this might sound like heresy.

Then again, I'm running a CZ97B,

Which eats anything I put into it like a horse eats hay.

Buckhannon- You do realize that Black Talons were repackaged ad Rangers, and have no greater or lesser effect than any other premium JHP ammo? They were demonized for no reason, the idea that they are different from any other JHP ammo is anti-gun hype.

Have you run 200 of them error-free through your carry gun to verify reliability? Those cartridges are so old now, I wouldn't trust my life to them.

factory ammo ,which is 230 fmj. I,ve had to carry ,from the early 60's to today .the thing i like about the 45 is it is already expanded (458 dia.) when it leaves the barrel. and they work.

230gr Golden Sabers in everything. All of my .45s eat them like candy. My AMT did, before I rebuilt it into a 22.

Post #78, yet another Thread Necrophelia alert!
You are responding to a nearly three-year old thread.
Why do people keep dredging these up from the dead?

Read those old threads, absolutely.
If the pages of posts don't answer your question, do a search. Or start a new thread.

What do you carry in your .45acp?
I carry 9mm because I don't own a .45 ACP any more. :)

I had a beautiful Springfield 1911 A1 stainless that I foolishly traded several years ago. :banghead:
