The 9mm is my stay at home mistress. She sleeps very close to me at night. She will eat anything without complaining. Right now it's Georgia Arms 115 gr JHP and any 115 FMJ I have on hand staggered stacking order begining with hollow point. If push comes to bang I'm sure that will do the job.

Based on local availability and what my SR9c likes to shoot best, I use 147 grain Golden Sabers.

Were I in a location where they were easily available for training, I would go back to Speer Gold Dot 124 +Ps

I'm a big believer in Federal HST so I keep all my carry guns loaded with it. Wish they would make some in 10mm too! In 9mm i use the 124 gr +P. All my guns are plenty sturdy to eat a healthy diet of +P and I don't feel a big difference in recoil. I like Gold dot and Ranger as well but only if I can't get the HST.

I'm actually surprised that more folks aren't saying they use FMJ since I remember quite a few threads about 6 months ago with many expounding the virtues of the jacketed lead round nose.

^^^ I'd think for .380 against human threats yeah... but for 9mm Luger? Not so much, IMHO. When it comes to stopping human threats 9mm can use HP ammo whereas .380 "may be" better served with FMJ. These "marginal" calibers are, indeed, difficult to pinpoint sometimes regarding bullet type, etc. How much penetration is enough? How much is too much?

I could open a huge can-o'-worms regarding "stopping threats": but there's no point. There will "always be" those middle marginal points.

The 2 main questions are: 1. What do I need a given round to do? 2. Are there ammo options available for my given caliber to accomplish those needs?

Now that I feel very comfortable that my new Kahr PM9 is totally broken in(422 rounds thru it now) I have tried 124 grain plus P short barrel Gold Dots which were reliable in the pistol but after using a box of the Winchester 147 grain PDX1 that were just as reliable I found the pistol using these is more controllable with follow up shots.
And, since everything on the internet must be true as if it came from the gospel from on high, I had read that the 50 box count, more for less cost,of the Winchester Ranger Bonded 147 grain were the same ammo as the PDX1,which it CLEARLY is not, works just as good as the PDX1 in the feeding and accuracy.
But I am still a little nervous living in a big city of possible over penetration of the 147 grain and may give the Hornady Critical Defense a try.
Since my Kahr just seems to grind up any ammo I feed it I sure the CD will operate fine in it.
So for now still experimenting but I do like those 147 grains.

For years, I used Federal Hydra-Shok 124g as my 9mm ammo of choice. Lately, its gotten harder to find so I switched over to Federal HST 124g for my 9mm ammo. The poor performance of early 147g rounds left such a bad impression on me, that I just don't trust it to this day.
