I have always had good success at using a paper plate at 30 yards.it's about the same size as a kill zone on most upland birds and squirrels.Trying to put at least 75% of the pattern on the plate.I use a 4" by 4" piece of cardboard to pattern open bore guns.I was just curios as to what anybody else uses or if there was a bonafied pattern board out there and I just missed it.

Just tilt the steel plate toward the shooter a slight bit at the top. Anything coming back will hit the ground. I use a standard 4x8 sheet of 1/8" steel mounted on a two 4x4 posts. I put a one inch hole in the center of the plate to have a consistant point of aim. I use a can of white spray paint or cheap regular paint with a roller to cover the shot marks between test shots. The new marks will show you exactly what is happening with each discharge. I use a scratch pad & digital camera to record the shots for comparison later while relaxing if I need to. Sometimes it is hard to remember everything that happened by memory. My usual test distance is 30 feet.

Grab a few cardboard boxes at the furniture store. I have a 30" template cut out of a corrogated plastic political sign. I usually draw the circle before the shot not after.

i am really laid back it seems, use a large cardboard box so the target stands on its own. This seems the best to me cause you can break it down and then set it back up easily. Carry a staple gun it comes in handy for tacking up old newspaper ^smiles^

I get free LARGE architectural drawings from a local Architect. Then I tape it reversed to white side out onto a large cardboard panel I got FREE from local Appliance Store.

For a center circle/aiming point, I simply trace around a large coffee can.

No worries about nickel plated shot taking a bad bounce

None, unless you are about 6 feet from it. Most shotgun clubs will have a pattern board of some type - steel with cheap paint or grease on a roller is quick and easy.

Cardboard etc., also works, for a few shots with new coverings - that you can do with a roll of brown contractor paper from HD or Lowe's.

I prefer the steel - fire a shot, roll the plate, and repeat as necessary

I use 2 strings run between two posts and four binder clips at the corners of a 4 foot square piece of paper. Been working well in anything less than a semi-gale for 40 years.

Got a whole roll of "kraft paper" left over from a move and an old wooden barn that is ready to come down. We just tack some paper to the barn wall and use that.

There are a lot of things that can be found in your local Craigslist Materials section that can be used for targets of all types.

I bought a roll of corrugated packing material that was 4' wide and about 100' long. I slice off sections that are 2-3' wide for targets.
