What do you keep in your car as an emergency kit?

Did anyone see The Dark Knight?
Batman keeps a motorcycle in his car, for emergencies.

More than I care to think of :eek:

between tools, supplies, and spare parts there isn't much that could disable me and I could live out of it for 10 days pretty easily.

I was out camping about 5 years ago and got caught on some high ground during a flash flood the day before I expected to come home. Everytime I thought of something I wished I had with me but wasn't frivolous, I'd write it down. Wound up stuck on that hill for 7 days with what I had previously deemed 2 days of supplies. Fortunately, even then, I always keep enough extra water on hand to totally refill a radiator (10 gallons in this case).

Had plenty to drink, but stretched 2 days of food and supplemented with a .22 and the small game that had sought high ground just like me :D

Since then I'm often deemed "paranoid" with what I keep in my truck, but all my friends that I have ever helped change their tune in a hurry when having tools on hand saves them a $200 pull out of the ditch or a field and they have food to eat in the meantime.

The cell phone that always with me, car charger, the telephone of the local tow truck.

I also carry 2 fire extinguishers, a big Mag-Lite, some maps and paper, winch remote, some fluids and a few other Misc things scattered through the rig.

FFMedic

Wow, you guys/gals are way too oragnanized for me!

And I thought I was the NEAT FREAK!

I do carry a 15# dry chemical fire extinguisher in my work truck along with all sorts of tools to do minor building repairs. I also have a small (very small) first aid plastic box that has bandaids and other first-aid related stuff.

I do have a set of jumper cables in the garage that are doing no good there that I must put in my work truck. I also carry a few bottles of Isopropyl Dry Gas (the good stuff) for this extremely cold climate.

I typically have my cell phone with me and (very) seldom venture out to areas where there is no cell coverage--where I would be in "deep doo doo" if I broke down. Typically, I am somewhere where friends/family are only a call away (and within about 30 minutes ride from where I might get stuck).

A box of whiskey in the event of snake bite.

And a box of snakes.

All very impressive. FFMedic wins.

None of this is really relevant because no one says where they are or what sort of problems they would face when stranded.

I currently live in Minnesota and am never more than a mile or two from the nearest house. In the trunk of my motorcycle, I carry:

* Gloves and helmet in case I need to give someone a ride
* A tire repair kit including a miniature air compressor and patches for tube and tubeless tires.
* Tools. The kit is small and is chosen to deal with the sizes of nuts and bolts my motorcycle actually has.
* Jumper cables. (My motorcycle is fuel injected and large and as a rule can't be push started).
* A fairly comprehensive first aid kit.
* A flashlight.
* Water.

In the car I don't carry the gloves, helmet, or tire repair kit, but I do have a blanket, a sleeping bag, a Carhart coverall, and work gloves for dealing with various roadside problems.
