What do you not like about Glock?

The last official shoot off that I am aware of was by the Ohio State Police.

The competition was brought about because of the unreliability of the Beretta 96. Unreliability in actual REAL LIFE fire fights. Please don't argue with me, this is facts not opinions.

So they had a shoot off. had to be 40 cal or better, read that 40 S&W and 45acp.

No ones 45acp finished, yup they were all DNF. SIG, HK, Glock etc.

The SIG 226 was the winner followed very closely by the SIG 229, the HK USP, and then the Glock.

They were all very close, but that is how they finished.

The OHIO state police also had a subjective scale that finished pretty close to the actual shoot out.

So the troopers wound up with the SIG's.

So who is the most reliable? No official competition I know of has Glock ever won. But they like HK are usually very close. Close enough that one can say there is no or not much difference.

But if you want the most reliable. Get a SIG.

Even the Military contest in the mid to early 80's was won by SIG. Then they went back for a re-bid, and miraculously the Beretta folks won by a few cents over the SIG folks. Oh and the US got the missle base they had been wanting from Italy too. Yea!

A friend of mine, a former Soldier and a deputy at the Sheriff Dept I was with, was one of the troops directly shooting the guns during the military competition. One day I will tell you his story about it, as told to me.

There is a lot of other criteria involved with selecting a fighting handgun, and they don't always match what is needed for a Home defense handgun, or CCW handgun. They have different criteria themselves in each area, Home defense, CCW, military combat, police patrol etc....

But if you want the most reliable in any kind of quantified way, you would have to go with SIG.

And by the way. Regardless of Brand, the 9mm WILL ALWAYS, be more reliable than the 40 or 45. Thanks primarily to the 9mm tapered case.

Go figure.

I was talking to a Deputy Sheriff in the area I live, he was glad that his department carries the Sig, he believes it is a better gun (so does his boss).

Many that carry the Sig like the idea of a 380 cal as an off duty gun, the 380 is not available in US that I know of, in the Glock. The G25 is available in other countries but not here.

So for that reason he prefers the Sig.

For me, I hate those finger grooves. They feel like thy were made for much smaller hands, and so my fingers don't sit in them at all. My hands are only slightly larger than average. There are plenty of people with bigger hands.

blah blah let the well-meaning, personal experiences degenerate into "heard-from-a-LEO/military-buddy" anecdotes about how much Glocks suck...

cowssurf - I know what you mean about the finger grooves. I've handled both grooved and non-grooved and while the non-grooved did indeed fit my extra-large hands slightly better, I feel like the grooved model "locks" into my grip better so I don't lose the pistol (not that it would be easy to just "drop" either versions).

Regarding the jams you refer to, I've shot quite a few Glocks totaling several thousand rounds including G17 's and G19's. If you ever purchase a G17 that is jamming more than 1/1000 rounds, I would visit a gunsmith as few owners have reported such problems unless they have neglected to keep a firm group to keep the slide's inertia from being absorbed into the wrist and preventing a proper cycle.

alexd,

This thread is about "what you don't like about the Glock"...:p

I like the Glock very much, but the story I put up was about another who did not have one, the 380 is not available, pretty harmless post.

I don't bad mouth Glocks, good gun.

sig vs glock

never owned a sig, have no real desire to, Have owned two glocks and neither one has ever failed to go bang. I would say 70%of the LEO organizations that carry glocks is pretty good testimony and that is certainly no relfelction on sigs either..
