What do you not like about Glock?

TRIGGER!!! and the plasic sights. Sights are an easy fix. Other than that, they are fine.

I own 3 Glocks and shoot with guys who have two models I don't. Like a few of the previous posters I am not a huge fan of the trigger (compared to my 1911) And, I guess this is something you could call a personal quirk more than an opinion, but I like things I can individualize. My 1911 is different because of the changes I've done to it. My Glock is almost exactly the same as his Glock. It may make for a really good tool for the masses (police dept, military, security) but isn't a great one for any individual.

I don't get the GLOCK hate.

The grip angle is fine. It just takes a very slight adjustment period, 3-5 rounds for me to get in tune with it's angle after shooting something else.

Yeah, the sights could be better, but doesn't that have something to do with the importation of the guns?

The 20/21 frames are a bit big for me but the 17/19 is great. I'm looking forward to trying this new 21SF.

I'm not a pistolero or long time, high skill shooter so I'm no expert on triggers but the GLOCK gets it done. I've never noticed that it was the trigger causing me to blow shots. In fact when I had my 26 (sob, I miss the little guy) it routinely Xd out the X ring.

And I don't care if everyone has one, they won't have mine.

I doubt the BATFE gives glock pistols bonus points for having cheap plastic sights, instead of steel ones.

The fact that everyone raves about them like they are the best polymer pistol ever made and the fact that I have owned several and still can't shoot them for crap!

Glock G17 Barrel Internal

OPEN QUESTION

Is there a remote possbility of ever scratching the internals of a Glock barrel? As per the discussion in this boards also that technically it's almost impossible because of the perfected method of Glock in preserving the steel.

Has anybody here, especially Glock owners who has put 10K or 5K of FMJ with or without Lead ever experienced or have seen scratch in thier barrels inside. Or is it most of the lead deposit?

Wow and My Dislikes

Wow, what a thread.

Purusant to Truth in Advertising, I'm a dedicated Glock enthusiast. Here is what I don't like about Glocks and a few thoughts:

1. I dislike that the grips and sights are so screwed up that 65% of the LEO market has Glocks as standard issue weapons.

2. I dislike that Jeff Cooper said, "The police establishment now is properly devoted to Glock and this seems to a good choice." Jeff clearly knows a deficient design when he sees it.

3. I dislike that that the FBI, DEA, and counter terrorist teams like GSG-9 think so poorly of the Glock that they offer them as standard issue.

4. I dislike that every major manufacturer is rushing to field polymer based weapons. Misery loves company, I guess.

5. I dislike that the public feels these guns are bad. Glock reports that they've only sold 2 million over the years.

6. I dislike that my G21 is actually a crew-served weapon. (Thanks Steve, I still think that's funny...)

Now I'm leaving myself open to challenges that this thread is on what *you* dislike. Allow me to point out that I don't like the New York Yankees, but it doesn't mean they are a bad team.

I also often wonder if the inaccuracy comments are like that golf club of mine that has a built in drift to the left.

Thanks,

John

What I do not like about Glock?

1. Looks
2. Spongey trigger
3. Grip isn't as good as....1911, BHP, CZ.
4. Looks
5. There's nothing "special" about them.

If you consider it as a "tool," then there is not much to complain about. If you look at your guns as pieces of art, history, etc.....Then as I said, there's nothing special about them.

To understand me...here are some of My Guns: BHP, Makarov, Colt .380 Gov, Winchester 94. Rem. 700
Here are some I want: 45-70, Colt 1911, M1- Garand, AK-47

If I had my way I'd give them more trigger options. I like a tda pistol. I'd give them a more ergonomic grip with interchangeable front and back straps, maybe even replaceable side panels so people could build a fat grip or thin one and avoid grip reductions. I'd add a little styling to the slide. Sure its unnecessary but I'd like to see something other than the flying rectangle design. Its utilitarian but homely, like a dodge omni. Personally I'd also like a more euro styled mag release on the trigger guard but I think I'm in a small crowd there. Essentially I'd merge the walther p99 with the glock and maybe take the straps from the beretta px line.

Of course you have to wonder if they're concerned about getting a gun with the most pleasing ergonomics that will make shooting more enjoyable or getting the best deal (incidently they probably aren't getting plastic sights on theirs either).

Forward Slide Cocking Serrations
Low Profile Steel Sights
Better Grip Angle
Replaceable Backstraps
Fully Supported Chamber

Gaston, are you reading this thread?!

The grip angle is a problem in the states, because it is not like the 1911. The grip angle on the 1911 is a problem everywhere else in th eworld, because it is not as natural an angle. You don't see many fine target guns with that grip angle, that's why Ruger bought out the 22/45 or whatever it was called. Americans didn't like the grip angle.

Grip angle in the states is like frame size in single action revolvers. If it is not he same as a colt, it is big and unwieldly. Not a problem or evena consideration anywhere else in the word.

Different strokes for diffrnet folks.

I don't have one at the moment, but have owned and used them at work in the past. Kbs on big bores are a bit of a worry, even though I have never experienced one. I have only ever used 9mm in Glocks.

Very happy with the glocks I had.

I don't really care for any of the double stack guns... regardless of frame material. They are normally too thick and I find them uncomfortable to hold. (I have held the S&W M&P and it was better. The Ruger SR9 has the nicest grip of the double stacks IMO but I am going to wait until ruger can really get them moving before I check one out.)

Therefore, I don't like the glock. The grip is too bulky, it isn't aesthetically pleasing IMO... NO external safety. I have shot a few and do alright with them but I am so used to shooting the 1911 pattern pistols that for me the glock takes a couple rounds to bring the sights down to the target in a quick draw and shoot situation...

I am also one of the "If everyone has it, I have to be different." people (Well, when considering the people I normally shoot with and hang out with...)

Well - I don't like the bulk, balance, grip angle (point of natural aim), grip form, trigger pull and reset. And the Kool-Aid!

Unfortunately, many posters don't understand that the "Glock", and there is a myriad of them, is an appliance. And one that works. It's not pretty, it just works. For an appliance, what more could be asked?

Whereas I prefer my 1911s and M&P45, that does not mean that the G-guns don't work, or that they are not cost-efficient.

I'm still not sure about the "raving Glock lovers", but I don't have to understand.

"Little People, why can't we "Just Get along?""

My problem with Glocks is that I have very small hands and can not reach the trigger. All the rest of the things you guys are talking about like grip angle and sights don't even enter into it.

my first time shooting a hand gun was a glock so i think it feels ok
only thing that i notice bad is slippery grip

Glocks are the perfect all-purpose pistol. They aren't the best at any one thing except reliablity.

The things I do not like about them:

Awful factory sights-replaced with trijicon.
Poor slide release placement-added aftermarket slide release that is set back.
No forward slide serration-not sure if I want my gunsmith to add them or not.
Crappy trigger-install 3.5pound trigger.

Other than that they are a pretty good all round pistol that can be improved relativly quickly and cheaply.

If I could only have one pistol it would be a Glock. There's nothing they're "bad" at but there are things they are not the "best" at.

For example, I appreciate the light weight for carrying but as a range gun, I like a big hunk of metal (CZ-75 SP-01) to absorb recoil and get me back on target faster.

OK, I've been patient and held back.
What's to like about them? They are ugly, uncomfortable, poorly designed copies of prior polymer framed firearms, encompassing all the drawbaks of their predecessors. Take a magazine of plastic, it wont drop free. Make it out of steel and then cover it with more plastic, so the grip can stay shaped like a two by four, what an idea:banghead: Build to a price point between quality and crapola so go ahead and use pop off plastic sights. Don't build a strong metal insert carrying the rails, just cast them into the polymer grip to save a few more bucks. What is the simplest shape (read cheapest) to forge? a square or rectangle so why waste machine time and money shaping the slide? Trigger problem? No problem. Show how even a total novice can make it go bang and flood the police departments with them to make the public think it is a fine pistol...what the heck the public is a bunch of idiots anyway.

end of rant :D

Without reading all 4 pages, the reason I switched back to a 1911 is the trigger. The trigger pull on the Glock serves to finish pulling the striker spring the other half of the way for every shot, making it kind of a 1/2 DA pull, so that weight is always going to be under your finger. I had a .22 conversion kit for mine, and I would get seriously tired from that pull after a few hundred rounds.

It's not terrible. A good friend of mine got a Ruger autoloader (His wife would only let him get a pistol if he got the cheapest one he could work with,) and in comparison the Glock trigger is a dream. The Ruger trigger is creepy and unpredictable, at least the Glock trigger is always consistent. I still tell anyone interested in getting started to get a Glock.
