I had a 16 inch A2, I want to build another thinking about a 20 inch with fixed stock. What are your preferences for an A2?

I'm thinking about an 18" Dissipator style, but then I realize I might as well stick with the 20" and keep the design parameters the way they were meant to be.

I don't really like the collpasible stock except for compactness.

I would love a 20 inch barrel (modern production HBAR) AR in A1 full stock ( remove the stock A 2 stock) . THe length of pull is a bit shorter. THe A2 is just too long in my opinion.

I like the A2 and fixed stock configuration. Either 16" or 20" barrel, but get a 20" if you don't already have one. If you want a slightly shorter stock, Cavalry Arms will sell you a quality A1 length fixed buttstock for not much money - I think $25 or so including the shorter screw that's required. You use the same buffer tube and buffer so it's an easy swap.

The A2 length buttstock is rather long even for a big guy. I have an example of each and prefer the A1 length, or the ACE ARFX that is equivalent to A1 length when used with the standard 1/2" buttpad.

either way, if you are not using iron sights, def spend good money on optics.

Uh, if he's doing an A2, chances are very good that he'll be using iron sights.

By "A2 configuration" I assume you mean iron sights.

If you are going to shoot irons, the more sight radius the better.

So I say 20".

Lightweight 16" collapsible stock is a light, balanced, joy!
Medium weight 20" (or heavy 16") w/a full-stock is balanced too, but, not as much "wow"!

Ok, I am 5'9" and from what I can tell it fits pretty good. Can you explain me this?
Not trying to fuss over it, just curious.....

For starters, fit is personal, so maybe it fits you just fine. However, the issue that many people find is that while its length works for a traditional "bladed" shooting stance, when wearing only ordinary clothing, that length becomes excessive when:
-wearing a harness or other web gear to carry mags, etc.;
-wearing body armor;
-using a more modern boxer type stance, with your torso almost perpendicular to the target.

I voted barrel length not buttstock length, 20" for 5.56, however I'm getting a 16" 7.62x39 with midlength gas system next week.
I use a CTR stock with a 20" and while it looks a bit strange the only thing I notice when I shoot is the length of pull is right, no matter my position, cheek weld seems to be the same and the butt shape is much better than the old CAR style stock, for me.

A "Middy-Dissy" 16" lightweight bbl would be about the shiz-nizzle for an iron-sighted gun, for a "fighting" rifle....but it depends on what all you're gonna do with it.

I believe someone makes a middy-dissy, I heard, but forget who. A middy-dissy 17" or 18" wouldn't be half bad either, but I don't know if these exist.

i rather have the 16 inch barrel A2 or A3 only way i would like the 20 inch barrel is if i was shooting bench rest matches,

i have a 16 inch barrel on my A3 ,but i have no optics on my flat top, i use iron sights easier to follow up on moving targets.

The effectiveness of the .223 is a function of velocity, so the 20" is superior as to ballistics. I'm not going to be in close quarters combat usage, so a fixed stock is as good as anything.
