What do you put on that rail?

Was in the toy store the other day. Happened to go by the Nerf guns between the Legos and Mega Blocks, and the paltry selection of remote control cars and such. The most amusing sight met my eyes, and I thought that I just had to snap a phone pic and bring this item of amazement here to show others. The gun was a bit too expensive for my meager college budget, but it was no trouble to get the pictures.

You can just see the rail in this picture, but it shows the gun overall decently.

This is the close up of the rail. Is that a Picatinny rail? What possible sight could be of use with the darts this thing shoots?

A number of other guns seemed to have a rail of some sort on them. I thought it highly amusing.

My son's nerf gun is a sniper rifle and it has that rail. His came with a scope complete with crosshairs, although no magnification.

Gee I miss the says when toy guns looked like real ones. To mee, the "candy" toy guns just don't do it. In today's world, I guess you have no choice. My daughter has GI Joes she plays with, she just started kindergarten, we actually had to have a conversation about not bringing the little 3 inch m-16 to school, would hate for her to get labled a terrorist at 5 years old. Sigh!

Anyway, I wonder if those are accurate enough to warrant some type of sighting device.

I suppose you would mount a real gun on the rail, or get some sort of picatinny-to-picatinny adapter so you can mount it on yours for "non-lethal" options

This reminded me of something I had not thought about in years. When I was in the first grade ( about '64 or '65) at Xmas time a Santa came to visit our class. Every kid got some sort of toy. I got lucky and opened mine to find it was a toy machine gun. It was the coolest present he passed out and all the the other boys were jealous of it. Some of the other boy toys were cowboy pistol and holsters as I remember but only one machine gun, and it was mine! Could you imagine that happening today?

And to stay on topic if my grandson saw the gun pictured above I know he would want it.

It's probably there to make kids feel like their gun is more like daddy's tacticool m4gery (except for the whole bright neon plastic and spacegun look thing).
Reminds me of the airsofters that put real EOtechs/ACOGs/Harris Bipods/lasers/surefires, etc. on their airsoft guns and end up with a $2000 toy.

Kid's pay attention they know real guns have a rail so the toys need a rail too.

A lot of the Tacticool look was driven by the Airsoft crowd. I've seen some insane photos of their guns. So it makes sense that kids toys would start to emulate that.

This was in Toys R Us. I saw it later at Wally world for cheaper.

I'd have to go with a night sight. I doubt the thing is accurate far enough to make use of anything.

But seriously, the idea of rail attachments for toy guns does sound like a great new market for someone to exploit. Just look at how the "tactical" market has exploded over the past decade. I can see all sorts of sights, lights, lasers and other crap to mount to toys.

Maybe it is for a top mounted tri-pod so that you can set up a near ambush.

The AN PVS-14 are much more usefull mounted to your face than a rail. If you mounted the PAC-4, then the 14 mounted to your cranium would be the finishing touch.

I'm about 90% sure that it is to mount another one of those dart guns to it. Kind of like "stacking" them on top of each other for more firepower. You can apparently build huge foam dart shooting monstrosities (sp?).

I have one of the "nerf" brand dart guns for my cubicle at work. It has a rail (though not exactly a picatinny knockoff like the one pictured). I too wondered what it was for and right on the box it showed a bunch of the guns attaching together to build some kind of "megadartgun".

But, I mean, you could put an ACOG on there too...
