It's good ammo and a little hotter than our ammo. Primers are sealed - goes bang everytime. I've shot .32acp, 9mm, .38 special and .303 British. Never had a problem.
I've heard mixed reviews on the stuff - some say it's good, others say it's junk.
I remember several threads/posts where people were getting undercharged rounds, and some even got squibs with no powder.
For range or plinking ammo if that's all you can find. I bought 2,000rds of it in 9mm 115gr ball in 2006. It was cheap in price, and the quality was cheap also. Everything from failure to fire (hard primer hits too) to light loads. I'll never purchase it again. I was expecting better. Hopefully they turned there quality around.
High quality ammo. Match grade ammo is cheap and very accurate.
303 British (green box): excellent
7.62x54r match (green box): awesome
9mm: never a problem.
22lr: a bit wide, prefer Fiocci, Lapua, CCI
I've had nothing but good results from the 1500+ rounds I've fired in 9mm. My only gripe is that they seem a little smokier than some other brands when shooting indoors--nitpicking really. Herter's Select is actually rebranded S&B and can often be found at a cheaper price. It's what I buy most of the time for range fodder.
I've fired thousands of round of pistol ball and hundreds of 00 12ga. They are a little more dirty and leave more residue in the barrel and on the gun.
Pistol all fire well with no complaint in .9mm, .40SW or .45ACP.
Wouldn't recommend the shotgun, the buck isn't held in a cup and it patterns horribly.
I only have experience with the 140gr. 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser soft points, they worked wonders on the whitetails last year, I only shot out to about 115 years but it performed well.
Good quality, inexpensive ammo. I never had a problem with it until I tried the .38 in a J-frame Chief's Special with a bobbed hammer, and ran into the "hard primer" issue. One out of five would not ignite, despite a good dent in the primer. This didn't happen with other brands I shot that day. I replaced the hammer spring with an extra-power Wolff spring, and that fixed the problem. So I'd say the primers are a bit harder than other brands, but that this shouldn't be a problem with unmodified guns in good condition.
Have used it in .380, 9mm, 40S&W, .45acp., probably some others I can't remember right now and never had a problem. Usually, can be bought at a reasonable lesser price and represents a very good value. Great brass to reload. Tight primer pockets which I like.
No issues with their .38 special and .357 magnum ammo. Seems to be loaded to low/moderate velocities but it burns clean and is more accurate than I am. I really like their 12-guage buckshot because it's half the price of any other buckshot I've seen, 100% reliable in my experience, and patterns well out of my gun.
It's my carry ammo in 7.65mm. I've never had a hard primer, and the rounds are accurate. It's loaded hotter than pretty much any domestic ammo (not including Buffalo Bore). My only complaint is that it seems a little dirtier than some of the domestic ammo out there.
