Sellier and Bellot or Fiocchi or CCI Blazer - which would you choose for 9mm in a Sig 228? This is for target/training. Thanks.

I've been thinking of crossing Sellier & Bellot off my list. This past weekend my brother had FIVE misfires shooting it out of his 9mm Sig229. This was five out of two boxes of 50. Primer was hit solidly dead on but no bang bang. After a second strike they fired. Gun is almost brand new with only a couple hundred rounds through it. I also had some problems with it in my .45. I put five mags of Federal hollowpoints through it then switched to the S&B. First mag I got an FTE... :uhoh:

IMO, give the CCI Blazer a try. :D

Sellier and Bellot or Fiocchi or CCI Blazer.

I've fired thousands and thousands of .45s from all of them over the years.
Alond with .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum.

Never had a misfire with any of it. Nor with Wolf.

If fact the only misfires I have ever had, with fresh, non abused ammo, was this past week. I has 16 fail to fire Aguila Super Maximum (out of 100) in four different guns.

I guess I am just lucky.

I use both routinely. I can certainly attest to the hard primers. I have probably had about 100 or so in .357S (none with the 9mm yet, though). I would say I get about 2-3 hard primers per box.

Blazer, however, is good stuff.

New CCI Blazer brass? Or the older Aluminum stuff? Heck, the range my decide it for you by not allowing the Blazer Al cases.

For the beginning of my shooting life, when I didn't reload, I never had a problem with the Blazer or S&B stuff. I normally see the S&B pretty cheap more often though. Either one will work for you, just get some of both and see if you have a preference.

I have used all the ammo listed with no problems to report. I would also have to add Winchester White Box to your list though. For cheap ammo I think the WWB really can't be beat.

Mike

P.S. Wasnt there a thread recently stating that S&B might actually be producing ammo under the WWB name?

I have a P228, and I routinely use either the Blazer Brass or the regular Blazer, and they work great. But the great thing about the P228 is that it feeds & shoots well with everything you load it with.

I have tried the S&B, and the Fiocchi, a lot of UMCs, the regular Win WB and the VP Whitebox. If I had to choose one ammo that it probably shoots a little better than the rest, it would probably be the Federal American Eagles, which I think is really excellent stuff regardless of caliber.

Our local Wal Mart sells Winchester White Box 115gr fmj 9mm for around 9.9s per 100rds. This is fairly clean brass cased stuff.

I never liked Blazer alloy cased ammo - too dirty. S&B makes good ammo, but its not as cheap as the Wal Mart stiff. Our Wal Mart will sell you a case of the stuff, too. I have done the math and for 9x19mm, this stuff is the cheapest and best stuff.

Wolf is a bit cheaper through mail order for me, but that stuff is filthy and I don't know about steel cases in my Belgain Beauty Hi-Power....doesn't sound like a good idea.

Blazer or WW Box

I have been using Blazer both Al and Brass case at range with no problems but since Natchez has started raising prices on it. I have switch to WinWhiteBox because I can just pickup what I need at WalMart without the shipping and CCard costs. For around $20 Per. 100 it's no brainer. :)

S&B seems to have hard primers. It works perfectly in my CZ75, but occasionally FTF in my BHP (in all fairness, I bought the pistol used, and think the previous owner monkeyed with it). Fiocchi is good, no FTF, it seems 'hotter' than either S&B or WWB. WWB is dirty, lots of carbon fouling. Federal American Eagle is good too, in my experience. :) I almost never user Blazer (at least in 9mm), it's too expensive to just throw away the cases. Not that I reload 9mm, but still pick up the brass.

S&B is a good choice too. It is a bit hotter than WWB and Outdoor Marksman sells it at the same price as WWB. I've never had a problem with the primers but the sealant they use will get deposited on the bolt or breech face but it cleans right off with any good cleaner.

The S&B primers are sometimes hard to remove if you reload, but that must be the sealant as I haven't had any problem in seating new primers into the S&B cases.
