Some of the other threads on hear got me wondering. What does your state require for you to exercise your RKBA? Just looking to see how it breaks down around the country. I look forward to your responses.

In Alabama

requirements for CCW, open carry allowed statewide (see AG opinion
#84-00205 by then AG Charles Graddick). However, city or county
ordinances may have since been passed to prohibit open carry. Its
a wise idea, to check with your local authorities before practicing
open carry~! :scrutiny: :uhoh: ;)

Here in AZ, anybody who can legally own a gun can open carry. If you want to conceal your weapon, you need a permit. Getting a permit requires an 8 hour class with written and range tests, fingerprints for a background check, and a fee to the DPS.

My option is not on this poll.

Oklahoma = No open carry and a license is needed for CC.

Both Oregon (the state I live in) and Nevada (my actual state of residence) require permits for CCW, but IIRC OC is legal throughout most of both states.

In South Carolina you need a concealed weapons permit for concealed carry. Easy to get.

For open carry you need a hunting or fishing license and must be engaged in or on your way to or from hunting or fishing.

I wasn't quite sure how to answer this, as Texas doesn't have *requirements* for OC, it has a flat *prohibition* unless you're on your own land and don't scare the neighbors.

There can be no requirement for OC in NV because OC isn't mentioned in any law - it's legal because it's not illegal. :) CCW requires training class and shooting.

Cali doesn't formally have an open carry license requirement. However, there are so many weird nuances you need to know that you're really asking for trouble. It goes without saying that Cali has a CCW "may issue" license requirement.

New Mexico is pretty reasonable on gun laws. OC is legal without any permit or registration, except the usual - federal buildings, schools and where alcohol is sold. Your car is the same as your home - carry what you want. A concealed permit has some real annoyances, though. A $100 fee, plus cost of training and range/qualifying (two 8 hour days), then the problem areas of no CCW were alcohol is served for consumption on premises (package sales OK - CCW only, not OC), NO BUG allowed (figure that one out!), and a one of a kind law - mid license (after two years) re-qualify! Also, a four year license (again re-qualify!) not five years. We are working to smooth out some of these problem areas, but legistators being what they are ---- fill in the blanks. Oh, one last thing - lots of Indian Reservations too - they have their own laws, and once you get off of the main hiway, it's their call on weapons. :scrutiny:

I wasn't sure what to put for Florida. I put requirements for both, however the reality is that only CCW is allowed, unless you are G certified for a job requiring open carry.

Indiana issues a license to carry.
The license allows both open or concealed, but most folks just carry concealed.
