I'll throw in another vote for the M14/M1A. Take those fine lines and classy curves, add a rich dose of history and nostalgia to the cold, steely heart of a killer, give it some of the best damn iron sights ever put on a rifle, a decent trigger, good ergos, and a cartridge capable of turning most light cover into concealment, as well as reaching and touching at ranges poodle shooters and Soviet sheet metal can only dream of, then make sure it's reliable, and it is, and you got yourself a rifleman's rifle. You got yourself an M14. An instant American classic that has found its role as a DMR/sniper rifle, and spent the last fifty years removing our country's enemies from the battlefield.
I think the M14 is attractive in every guise I've ever seen em in...never seen an ugly one, in fact. But for the purpose of this thread, behold, the original "EBR:"
I've never been a huge fan of the AR. Yeah, it's modular and accurate, it has good ergos, we get that. It also feels like a toy and sounds like a pogo stick. However, I read about the LMT piston carbine a while ago and in a market chalk full of ARs, more of the stupid things than you can shake a stick at, it stuck out and caught my attention. For the first time in my life, I think there may be a spot in my arsenal for Eugene's Wonder Rifle. But I'll eat my britches if I ever call any AR my favorite.
I've owned various AK based arms and without exception the accuracy always left me cold.
It's Russian. You're supposed to feel cold when you shoot it.
