What Evil Black Rifle Do You Prefer?

I'll have to be boring and say AR. Reasons - great modular platform, very reliable, inherently accurate compared to some other choices, huge market/aftermarket.

I own both an Arsenal SGL-20 AK and a Franken-AR I assembled myself and prefer the AR over the AK. Neither has given me a single problem in thousands of rounds. The AR is just so much lighter, more ergonomical, and has MUCH better iron sights.

I like all of mine for what they are - My AR has been reliable, it's lightweight, modular, and while I haven't tinkered around with it a whole lot, it's nice to know that I can. My AK is a beater - a WASR with gritty cheap furniture - I love it's simplicity, and while not inherently accurate (accurate enough) it's fun to shoot, and the ammo prices are still decent as well. And recently I picked up a Sig 556 patrol - I really love this thing - heavier but still well balanced. Different operating system than the AR but utilizes my already built up stash of mags and ammo, and I really like the trigger.

vz-58, everything else is a distant second for me. :) Of course, it has nothing in common but caliber to any AK. :D

Having said that, I would love to try a Keltec RFB...

AK all the way! To bad John M. Browning didn't think of it first.... I like my stuff American made if I have a choice but hell everything is imported anymore. If I wanted the upper hand in a worst case scenario and wanted to live to tell about it this is my choice.

thought I'd ask what your favorite Evil Black Rifle is and why.

The AR platform without a doubt. Anything and everything you could need is readily available and DIY. Maintenance is easy, the potential for accuracy and reliability is there and easy to achieve, numerous effective sighting options, multitude of cartridge options and barrel lengths.

I've never been a fan of the AR platform, or the .223 caliber. I would rather have an AK Platform such as a PSL, or a Galil for a small caliber. However, a CETME or a HK is my first choice.

AK's are'nt "BLACK RIFLES", get it straight/

Mine is. And they're undeniably 'evil' as far as the EBR definition goes.

They don't have to be completely black.

And I'll defend my AK's ergonomics. I don't know who convinced everyone that they need to use their left hand to work a rifle. :neener:

You can't shoot it until you have both hands back in place, anyway...

Used to own a FAL, South African Inch pattern, that I liked a lot,

but I realized I only shot it a few times, so I sold it. My only semi auto now is my old Chinese SKS, which is a lot more accurate than they generally are - it has a great trigger, which probably accounts for that. I can't hunt with a semi auto here in PA, so I have mostly bolt guns.

added-Uncle Sugar let me shoot the M-14 and the M-16, but I really like the SKS because it is super reliable and way overbuilt.

No surprise here, lots of people choosing the AR and AK. Quite a few for the VZ-58 as well... those are really picking up a following lately.

I would go with the M-14 myself, because it is reliable, accurate, long-ranged, has the best iron sights ever made, is chambered in a common military caliber, is easy to clear malfunctions in on the rare event that they happen, has lots of spare parts available, and because I am comfortable with that platform and confident that I can reliably make hits with it anywhere from close quarters to 800 yards.

Evil Black Rifle is the point. I guess in the day, my HK91 did that.

I'm building an AR, the controls are better laid out, the recoil will be a lot more manageable for follow up shots, I'm already memory trained handling one over 22 years, and it will be GREEN, which is what real battle rifles are. Not tackycool look at me black. The first M16's were green, the pro's camo'd their's something besides black, anything, but green has done ok for most of the temperate climates over the last 100 years.

Black isn't really a camo color, it's a social statement, and if you want to attach "evil" with it, the message seems to be to fear you. And, like any lawyer who only asks a question they already have an answer for, are there self esteem issues? Public schooling and working mom's seem to leave a shortfall in life?

You're not alone, don't attach to black as the One Color To Rule Them All. Real shooters don't use black - unless they need you to focus on them and not the victim you're holding hostage.

Armalite AR-10

I prefer the AR10 from Armalite. I shot a bunch of different 308 ar configurations before purchasing, and I was happiest with the product from armalite.

I have successfully taken big game with my ar-10 in the scenario where I wanted it: short range quick jump shooting through trees. Mine is the ar10a4bfc 16" carbine model with the infantry weight chrome-lined barrel.

I've shot tons of different types and brands of ammo through this and it hasn't had a single problem. My wife says it's easier to shoot than my 12g shotgun, which she loves to shoot.

I'll throw in another vote for the M14/M1A. Take those fine lines and classy curves, add a rich dose of history and nostalgia to the cold, steely heart of a killer, give it some of the best damn iron sights ever put on a rifle, a decent trigger, good ergos, and a cartridge capable of turning most light cover into concealment, as well as reaching and touching at ranges poodle shooters and Soviet sheet metal can only dream of, then make sure it's reliable, and it is, and you got yourself a rifleman's rifle. You got yourself an M14. An instant American classic that has found its role as a DMR/sniper rifle, and spent the last fifty years removing our country's enemies from the battlefield.

I think the M14 is attractive in every guise I've ever seen em in...never seen an ugly one, in fact. But for the purpose of this thread, behold, the original "EBR:"

I've never been a huge fan of the AR. Yeah, it's modular and accurate, it has good ergos, we get that. It also feels like a toy and sounds like a pogo stick. However, I read about the LMT piston carbine a while ago and in a market chalk full of ARs, more of the stupid things than you can shake a stick at, it stuck out and caught my attention. For the first time in my life, I think there may be a spot in my arsenal for Eugene's Wonder Rifle. But I'll eat my britches if I ever call any AR my favorite.

I've owned various AK based arms and without exception the accuracy always left me cold.

It's Russian. You're supposed to feel cold when you shoot it.
