I foolishly let my first 30 go years ago and recently "backed into" this one. It has someone's laser op-rod, I think Meprolight night sights (MH3?) and a light rail. Not being a Glock genius - seems the Gen markings are not really a rule with these as I though it would be.

Any insight into the Generation of this pistol would be greatly appreciated.

It has a fine, proud mag-catch but the slide release is essentially useless one-handed. Who makes a quality replacement for these?

Thanks for any constructive input.

Looks like a Gen 3. Finger grooves, 3 pins. Good gun. Glock's extended slide stop works well for me. Vickers tactical makes good stuff also.

One more tidbit: to my knowledge there were no Gen 2 G30s. The early ones had no rail and are sometimes called "Gen 2.5," but Glock would call them Gen 3. Yours has a rail and is definitely a Gen 3.

Thanks for that too. As little as I know of Glocks - almost everything is news to me.

Does that protrude outward more than the factory one, in addition to being extended?

These things are just too damn flat for me.

The early Glock 30 and Gen 3 Glock 30 is considered to be one of the most accurate Glocks there is .

Congrats on your newly acquired G30. I'll be redundant and also say it is a Gen3...

As L2 mentioned, the GLOCK extended slide release is just enough, but not too much. You'll likely pay almost as much in shipping as you will for the part. My Gen3 G30 has that same part on it.

My G30 is one of my more accurate GLOCKs, and I've got one or two... Or ten...

On edit: The four middle guns and the top right have the GLOCK extended release. The top left and bottom gun have stock releases.

#, I sold my original and bought the S, It's a far better gun for carry, where I almost never carried the 30, I find the S as easy as my 26.

Have the SF model more accurate then any 9mm I have owned in the past.
Carry it now most of the time in rotation with G23

I also have the 30S (Gen 4) The slide is the same width as the 19. Great carry gun. I put a smooth trigger in it and a 3.5 lb connector along with a lone wolf barrel. I cast and shoot a lot of lead. Boringly accurate.

I was not aware that Glock had made a Gen 4 30 "S". I know they make a 30 gen 4, but still can't find anything that says they made it in Gen 4. Perhaps an SF? I just looked at the glock website agian, and did not see a Gen 4 S.
I took this from another forum, In case anyone noticed the 30S gen4 and started scratching their heads. If I go that route I will be buying both a 30S and 30 gen4 to make a 30S gen4. I will then sell the other pistol off as a (non numbers matching) 30SF. I qualify for the blue label pricing so it shouldn't cost too much more to do it this way.
It seems unless I missed something, there still is no gen 4 S.
This also, from this year, I just bought a Glock 30S last week. It is not quite a gen3 nor is it a gen4. It is actually somewhat of a hybrid of the two. It has a dual captured recoil spring (gen4) and a gen4 trigger bar. But the grip is definitely gen3, though the pull length has been shortened a touch. Recoil is not bad at all. The one thing I definitely recommend, and am going to order, is an after market set of sights. Other than that, I'll do my usual thorough polishing of all internal contacting metal parts. I did install a temporary 3.5 connector and will keep that in the gun as well.

If you are serious about a smallish .45ACP, the 30S is a fine choice and one to seriously consider.

My 30S is stamped "30S", has the captured recoil spring. It is not stamped "Gen 4" as is my 19. The glock rep informed me it is a gen 4 with the stipled grip and captured spring. Its not an SF( short frame) just an S. Slide is the exact width of the 19 slide. I think they also made a single stack 45 (27?) with the same size slide.

I think the dealer was mistaken, "the Gen 4 would have the additional backstraps. I read up on this several times prior to selling my original Glock 30, "from the first release. The S I got just about a year ago seems to be the only new one from that time forward.
If you find I was wrong, please let me know, as I carry thet gun in rotation. And would be up to see an actual Gen4 "S", with the backstraps, just for concealments sake.Fof me the 30 S, is almost as easy to carry as the 26, because of the muzzle length and decreased width. I ordered one of those "Cherries" holsters that Keannu Reeves used in John Wick. It let's the gun sit very low, right below the belt line. Sheck it out @ Cherries covert carry holster, it's what the Israli trainer who is training him for the sequal has him using, and I read good things about it.
It only comes in a few glock models and I believe a shield, and by now perhaps a few more, but I always have a problem with IWB holsters and Glocks. I use a Blade Tech on several because it is so thin, but still sit's too high for me.

So many look for a lightweight 1911, that can hold 8 rounds, when the 30,S. is as Hickock, once mentioned, a stripped down 1911, with 11 rounds, and a 20 oz weight. I for one can't rationalize a 34 oz Commander with 7 rounds, when I can carry a Glock that carries more rounds and is lighter, and has no thumb safety.
In a gun fight, the small differences in trigger, don't mean enough to sacrafice the 4 rounds, or 7 if you carry a 21 mag.
I have 14 rounds ready to go in a lightweight reliable package, that even if I lose for an investigation, "which happened", it isn't going to make me sick when I get back a scratched up gun.
I still want my 1911, I just don't want it for daily carry.

Since I got my 30S it's been my carry gun and nightstand gun with a 13 round g21 mag. Just waiting on my Taran Tactical +4 baseplate and spring to give me that 17+1 45acp I always wanted
