What gun "hooked" you?

My dads Mossberg model 152. I have two of my own now, along with several other old Mossbergs in my collection.

A few years back, a 12 gauge autoloader of some kind. My father and I went out and shot a round of skeet with it while we were on vacation somewhere. My mother was an anti back then (The BB gun was not allowed in the house, it had to stay in the garage :scrutiny: ), but I decided right then that as soon as I moved out I was buying a 12 gauge so I could go to the skeet range and shoot whenever I wanted.

I've always had an intrest in guns. I remember going to Oshman's and looking at all the guns especially the AR-15s they had on the back rack.

Then I inherited a Hopkins and Allen single shot 12ga from my grandfather. I really, really wanted to shoot it but I couldn't find a gunsmith that would tell me it would be safe. It was damascas(sp?) steel. But that started the bug and a few months later, when I turned 18, I bought a Mossberg 500. Changed my life. And a year before that I bought a used copy of Mel Tappen's "Survival Guns" . That book warped my young mind pretty well.

And that's how it all started for me.

When I was dating my Dearly Beloved, my idea of a romantic date was an afternoon of shooting, til it got too dark.
He started me on a Buck Mark .22 LR.
But I fell in love with the Browning 9mm Hi-power.
But THEN he made the mistake of putting a .45 in my hot little hands.
I still love the Browning, but I cheat on it with a Gold Cup whenever I get the chance.

When I was old enough to buy my first gun a friend and I went halves on a Winchester model 190. We used to go out about once a month with about 2000 shells and have a blast.

I remember stopping at the Army Navy store (they had the best price on bricks of 22) and seeing a TDE 44 AMP. Man what a cool looking cannon. I got hooked that day.

I have bought a lot of guns in the 30+ years since that day. Still don't have an automag yet though. Always have to have something to dream about.

Broomhandle Mauser. Wanted one as a kid and it wasn't until college that we met and fell in love. ;)

the marlin 39 lever action my dad bought for me when I was very young. It was accurate and shooting pigeons with shorts got to be a habit. My best friends father was a marine sniper and one weekend took us both shooting and taught me how to sight in a scope.from that point on,I became interested in accuracy and target shooting. My dad took me out hunting squirrels and rabbits..it started my interest in hunting.

My old man's S&W .38 Special. A 36, I believe. That, and I am sure this applies to others, the magical aroma of Hoppes #9. What a beautiful revolver!

My Dads Remington 341-P .22 rifle. I had shot a couple times before with BB guns. Then one Saturday, I was maybe 10, we went for a picnic by a river. I drowned a bunch of worms with no fish to show for it and Mom and Dad were getting tired of me moaning. Dad opened up the trunk and got that rifle and some ammo, sat me down on an old quilt and 'splained the basics. Then he went and sat with Mom. Now and then he gave me some tips, teaching the four rules, etc. I remember it to this day. My grand-daughter is showing some interest, I can't wait until the mud's gone. She'll be the fifth person to learn on that rifle. :)

Oh, yeah. And Hoppes #9.

What's the one defining moment that made you realize that you were "into" guns?

When I started noticing calibers in my clock. 3:57, 5:56, 8:57.

What was the one firearm that first hooked your interest?

The G3. At first I was only interested in it because of video games and media footage. It was sleek, black and sexy. It wasn't my first rifle but I eventually got one(Sort of). :D

Mine was a singleshot falling block .22 that my dad bought for me at a garage sale. It had no extractor, so every spent case had to be dug out with my fingernail. I would spend an entire day shooting off a brick of ammo and my fingers would be bleeding by then. I loved it. The other was a ruger single six- I used to think I was a cowboy popping off soda cand and clay pigeons with it.:D

This one always kills the old lady, she hates 'um. I had quit shooting for one reason or another and hadn't touched a gun in years. I meet my old lady and after we moved in together I found a gun she had in a closet that her ex had got her for protection around the house. It was a cheap Italian .22lr revolver. I cleaned it and bought a bulk box of Remington Golden bullets and that's all she wrote. Now when she bitches about the cost of my hobby I just smile and say "you got me started".

Good question. For me it happened about 50 years ago, and the very cool thing is that I can still see the scenes, smell the smells and hear the sounds as if it happened yesterday. The Marines would give regular shooting lessons to dependents and I was one of about 10 young kids shooting .22 bolt action rifles on the same firing line as Marines doing their practice. There were no benches or rests as I recall. On my left was a small group of Marines practicing with their issued 1911's, including my father. On the right about 20 yards away was a group practicing with M1's. I think I watched both of those groups, especially the 1911 shooters, more than I concentrated on my own target. I was hooked solid at that point and there was no turning back.

Does this sound familiar to any of you? " CEASE FIRE - cease fire - open bolts - unload"

That was what the range officer yelled at the end of a firing round. I can still recall the sound and the cadence of it to this day. You had better not even think about squeezing off another shot after that command was given.

Let's see. I grew up with bb guns, graduated to shooting a friend's ruger 10/22, but really got hooked once I got my hands on a rental USP40 at Jensen's in Tucson. It felt like a Mercedes or BMW in my gun form.

It started with my grandfathers bolt action .22, then it went to grandmothers
30/30. When I was 18 I got a Mini-14 and then it was all over..... I became
and addict:D
And I've loved every minute of it!:p
