only one in my family to own a gun, so ill be doing passing down later in life.

Hmm.. I find it welcome and encouraging really to read of 1st generation gun owners. Good thing. Needs to be more of us!

Mom passed in '06, Dad is on his way out in a matter of months. Both in their 50's too... Anyway, I got mom's Nylon 66 (thread to follow when I finally take it out and shoot it) and when dad goes I get my old Glock 23 back. He keeps it with him on the couch of infirmity, in case somebody breaks in. My brother gets the old Stevens single shot 20 that he calls the "long Tom" due to it's long barrel. Bro also gets some other guns, mostly single shot H&Rs that he gave to our dad trying to connect with him and share a common interest.

I have several guns that I intend to use to teach my son (and any future siblings) with. The Savage 24 in .22WMR over .410, my NEF with it's many barrels, my old Daisy Powerline 860, that Nylon 66, etc. The only real hole in my pay-it-forward plan is a .22 handgun. I plan on remedying that later in the year, probably a couple Rugers. I plan on planting a lot of seeds before I miss the opportunity, as I regularly see how fleeting life can be.

The only gun handed down to me so far, aside from the ones I conned my dad into giving me since he doesn't use them, is a Y model 12 with cutom wood. I wanted it forever my uncle owned and he always told me if I got straight As it was mine. Well that never happened but when I got my AA degree he gave it to me as a present. I love that gun and of course my uncle. He is still shooting and will probably out live me.

No... it's a Colt AR-15 SP-1 model. Sometimes called the "slickside."

I didn't inherit any full-auto stuff. But my kids will... ;)

My dad and grandfather both had matching Mossberg 20 ga. bolt action shotguns with accuchoke adjustable choke. My dads was the first gun I ever shot. Last year he gave it to me and I refinished it. I would guess it's worth about $50 but I can't imagine ever selling it. It still shoots well 3" group @ 75 yds. with Federal rifled slugs.

As I'm sure others have said, my dad loved guns. He was an avid collector of Mil-Surps and guns of the "Old West". With that being said I could never name each of them (and so won't try).

Dad was more likely to dispose of my guns than to pass one on to me. He even short-stopped the Browning shotgun Grandpa Tony left to me, trading it for an ancient, tiny Shasta travel trailer but neglecting to get the title. (To give him his due, that trailer was my home for many years.)

The only gun that slipped past him was an 1890s Iver Johnson hammerless .38s&w that had belonged to a great-great uncle who had been a cop in 'Frisco. One of his throw-downs, apparently.

I might be passed one or two, but haven't been given nor passed any at this point in my life. My Grandfather's Springfield 03A3 ended up with a cousin of mine, and was lost in a burglary. Dad still has all of his stuff, except a muzzleloader my brother claimed and went home with.

Sucker is left handed. It's a traditional flint-lock. (shakes head).

i own an 870. apparently those last forever. i hope i have kids some day so i can be that cool parent who goes shooting and all...

I have three.

A Browning FN-made auto-5 12 ga shotgun from the 1930s.

S&W Model 1917 .45acp revolver that was my grandfather's sidearm in WW1.

DWM 1915 9mm Luger my grandpa took from a German officer.

I only have one "Hang on the Wall" gun - a Winchester model 1894 saddle ring carbine in .25 .35. My father bought it new in 1898, as his primary deer rifle. Still in shooting condition (gunsmith checkup recently), but I don't hunt, and .25 .35 ammo isn't generally available, except special order. It goes nicely with a for-fun sign "Antique Cowboy", which I do qualify as. :)

When my dad passed a few years back I inherited his Remington 700 BDL 30-06 w/ Weaver Scope 3-9x40 Made In USA before they went over seas. He got it for a gift from us kids when I was about 5 years old and same year opened 2 of his own business at which time he never went hunting again. And when we went shooting we never had egnough room for high power rifles. Pistols only or .22 rifles. So til this day its in mint unfired condition. I always was promised by my dad he was going to take me and us shoot it for the first time then never did I regret that we never did go do it. I now struggle deciding to go shoot it or leave it unfired.

Next one from my father in law when he passed a Springfield 1911 fully customized.. I have shot it many times. Out of al my guns those are 2 unless the kids do not have roof over their head or food to eat they will be keepers and passed to my boys...

An absolutely mint artillery luger. My great uncle got it off of a German officer in WWI. I asked him how he got it from the guy. He said, "He didn't need it anymore."

His .1911 45, which he bought in 1917. Officers had to buy their own guns, he told me.

My dad's little Knickerbocher 20 gauge shotgun.

My grandfather's shotguns were confiscated by communists.

I am very much wondering whether my son will have much the same to say about his father and grandfather.

Its a beat up Glenfield Model 60 Semi auto 22LR that my grandpa bought at Montgomery Ward. Never leaving. It is a shooter though, darn accurate too.

Lets see..

The Coast to Coast .30-30 (grandfathers -> father -> me, all living)
The International M1 (grandfathers -> father -> me, all living)
The Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R Mag (father -> me)
The Rossi M68? .38sp (father -> me)
The Mossberg Mod 144us(a) .22lr (grandfathers -> father -> me, all living)
The Chinese SKS with all matching serials (father -> me)
The FEG Hungary P9R .9mm (father -> me)

I have already been told I get my fathers collection when he dies.

The two arisakas are going to interesting as well as the target .22lr's (anchutz, marlin, and mossbergs.) I don't even know what else he has as they start blending after the first few hours (hehehe) of exhibition, one after another.

I think thats about it.
