What Guns would the Bad Guys Carry?

If IT were to ever happen what do you think that a serious bad guy would carry to loot and pillage?

I was thinking an AK-47 or what ever they wanted to carry and some type of pistol that they preferred, like a Glock Model 17 or Smith and Wesson Model 66, a few Remington 870s and Mossberg500s, and things like that.

What do you guys think that they would carry?

Keep in mind I'm not talking about a bunch Lorcin carrying Mabus. I'm talking serious 21 century Vikings here.

Good question. I think that the general neanderthal out there won't be too gun savvy. just a general gut feeling. I think that sks's and ak's and whatever auto or revolver they could get their hands on. I watch the show COPS sometimes and see the total POS hillbilly steels that they pull out of suspect's cars. Gotta have a tec-9 coz that is what all the gangbanger's want, and make sure you hold the pistol sideways, coz that's the SHIZZLE!

Criminals tend to carry weapons that are cheap/stolen and easily concealable. I'm guessing pistols and revolvers account for the vast majority of their arsenal, with the occasional lunatic opting for something bigger like an AK clone, SKS, or a shotgun. Don't underestimate the gun knowledge/tactics of someone who has lived on the streets - practice makes perfect, as they say.

[tinfoil hat] More sophisticated criminals and JBTs carry better weapons and occasionally body armor. You might come up against ARs/M16s of some type, and, if they're government agents (foreign or corrupt domestic), probably the ubiquitous MP5. I also understand many police favor entry shotguns.[/tinfoil hat]

I assume you're talking about criminals that aren't total dumba$$es.

I'd say they'd use whatever was available and worked. That means any autoloaders/revolvers from reputable manufacturers, and for the more aggressive bad guys, shotguns, and decent autoloading rifles.

Soooo....I'd say Glocks, S&Ws, Colts, Rugers, Sigs, Kimbers, Springfield Arms, Brownings, and Beretta pistols are all good bets. They are available in just about every gun shop in the country and can be found in quite a few gun safes as well.

As for longarms, probably a lot of ARs, AKs, SKSs, Remington 870s, Mossberg 500s, Remington 1100s, FALs, and other longarms available in most guns shops, and people's gun safes.

With criminals that aren't stupid they will have whatever guns are commonly available that also work. Considering they'll get their guns by stealing them they'll have about the same equipment as most firearms enthusiasts have in about the same distributions.

However, they won't bother with bolt action rifles, or other slow loaders.

I'd say you hit the nail on the head with your selection in the first post Revolver.
The original Vikings were pretty serious about their weaponry, so I'd assume their modern counterpart would be equally serious. I'd expect AR's, AK's and 12 ga. along with hi capacity type big bore handguns (or the ubiquitious 1911 or .357 wheelies for the older, wizened types) for that in your face, up close pillage and plunder type activity. Bigger is always better. I think I'd prefer the 1100 series to the 870 pumps tho', allowing you to keep one hand kinda free if needed.
Stainless steel if they were sea faring type of raiders, of course.

So are those guns more accurate thrown or shot?

I would expect that sophisticated criminals would have sophisticated weapontry.

So do you think that they would use for their idea of a sniper rifle. Maybe a Scoped AR or M-14 would work well if they didn't want bolts? I do agree that he good ones would want something with knock down power as far as pistols go.

Well since you're talking Vikings, you're talking seafaring raiders, so they'd start out with some small arms, whatever they could buy or barter, then commadneer a good boat, small and fast. Then they would fake a distress call to get a Coast Guard cutter in close, then spring out and open up. Having Sucessfully taken over the cutter, they would then commence commercial raiding using the cutter to heave to the ships, possibly using one as bait to call in a destroyer-class ship, take over that, etc...
