What happened to all of the 10 rd mags from the AWB?

So the Assault Weapons Ban lasted for ten years, during which time only 10 round magazines were made for us lowly civilians. What ever happened to all of those magazines? I don't seem to see them anywhere. I would have figured that they would have become the super cheap magazine at the gun show. Did they all move to Cali etc.?
 
There are a bunch people with CZ75s online that are still trying to pass them off with 10 round magazines instead of the 16 round they should come with.
 
a few days ago i saw a bin of assorted 10-round mags on clearance at a scheels sporting goods store. at first i was excited to see the big pile of discount mags, then when i realized they were all 10-rounders i was underwhelmed, which is probably why they're on clearance and nobody is buying ;)

Mostly, non ban states are trying their best to get rid of them. Unfortunately they are barely worth free.

They have most value as a gunbroker item going to a ban state.

They are one of my biggest pet peeves as a summary existence is concerned. I wish they would all just disappear.

Unfortuately they are not super cheap at gunshows because sellers dont want to take a loss on them. Just think, a Sig or HK mag costs the same whether it is 10 or full capacity. Gun show sellers probably want to dupe some gun noob into buying it.

My biggest gripe with them is for the Steyr M9/S9. They were pretty much all imported during the ban so it is mercilessly difficult to find a standard capacity magazine for them.
 
My M1A came with one when I bought it new in 2009. Annoyingly, it also came minus the bayonet lug. I later found out that apparently Springfield never put the bayonet lug back on their M1As post 2004. I'll probably order a new flash suppressor that has a bayonet lug eventually, it's a NM wood stocked 22 inch barreled rifle that looks straight out of 1960, it's just missing a bayonet.

There was a little tag on the trigger guard that said "not legal for sale in CA", I later found out that CA considers a wood stocked, 22 inch barreled, rifle an "assault weapon" :confused: Who are the idiots making these laws down there? :confused:
 
I picked up afew at my local Gander mountain, because they were half the price of the regular magazines. I don't really care for the 10 round magazines, but I don't mind destroying those when I'm practicing tactical & combat releoads.
 
The two 10 round CZ75 mags that came with the gun I bought during the ban go nicely with the five 16 round post ban mags to let me load 100 rounds of 9mm to attack the plate rack :)

So while I certainly won't be buying more unless they are like $2-3 each, but I won't be throwing mine away unless they stop working.

As far as AR15 mags go, I see 10-rounders for sale pretty much everywhere. I need to buy several.

The 10-rounders that would neuter the higher capacity handguns I have, I have no use for.
 
Unless you live in a ban state where you're forced to use them (in which case, move :neener: ) there is only one good use for 10 rounders; IDPA.

Probably because that particular rifle had a thingy on the muzzle-end of the barrel someone called a 'flash suppressor' rather than the much safer 'muzzle brake'.

And, the form of your question contains the answer at words 3 and 4.
 
As noted, 10-round magazines can be fine for general range use. I came across a shop that was getting rid of its HK USPc .40/.357 10-round mags for $5 each and bought every one they had ... because they work fine in a 9mm UPSc and hold 13 rounds of 9mm, which is standard capacity in that caliber.
 
10 rd mags...

Every time I find a used Ruger pistol somewhere, I check...and yup! All 10 rounders. Thank you, Bill...rest in peace!
 
New pistols that only come with 10 round mags annoy me to no end. I won an NRA Glock 22 at a Friends of the NRA raffle that came with those annoying 10 rounders and one of the Keltec Glock mag Sub2000s I bought also came with the 10 rounders. My last Beretta 92 I bought (new in box) orignially came with 10 round mags, but I told the dealer I would only buy it if he traded them for full capacity mags. He gave me 2 new full capacity mags and let me keep the 10 rounders as even he didn't want them.

Usually I'm able to trade two 10 rounders for a full capacity mag at some of the local gunshops though.
 
I picked up a 10 round glock 19 mag in a bin of assorted mags at a gun show for $8.00. I use it for range trips with new shooters and to do help them practice loading double stack mags by hand. I don't like 10 rounders for carry but they are great as training tools.

And of course nobody would have been using those new .40 mags loaded to 13 during the AWB. Smart.
 
I have a few stashed away, either gonna give 'em away to members in restricted states or use 'em if anyone ever starts an IDPA match out here.
The one I do like is my CZ75 Compact magazine that is marked "LE/Govt only". Since there was about two PDs that authorized CZs back then, this mag is a little on the rare side. :)
