AWB in 415 days!! What will happen??

I would love to read what manufacturers are planning for next fall when the AWB finally sunsets. I am sure there are plenty of places that will finally start turning out hi capacity magazines as fast as possible. I am looking forward to being able to purchase 10-22 50 round magazines for under $100 next fall. I guess this is all assuming that they will not renew the ban. I have done allot of reading on the subject and it sounds to me like nothing will happen. That is assuming all of us gun owners put some time in calling our elected officials.

Has anyone any insight into what manufacturers plans are for next year?

I'd bet that the manufacturers and importers are filling their warehouses with full capacity magazines as fast as they can right now. They should be gambling that the ban will die in 9/04, but there is the possibility that a new ban will occur after the November elections. Depending on which new AWB bill passes, their warehouses will be full of new pre-bans. Of course, if the new ban is retroactive to 9/94, they, like us, are screwed.

Couldn't agree more. My Rep. (R) Trent Franks gets a weekly post card reminder from me. I give Sen. John Kyle a weelky reminder and Sen. John (the traitor) Mcain 2 weelky reminders that he had better start acting like a Rep. or he won't survive the primaries next year. And yes all of the stamps do get expensive.
 
I think it's a safe bet that nobody will try anything before the election- gun control is a loser and the Democrats know it. Now after, that's another story....
 
I am worried that the Repubs will steal yet another Democrat issue and renew or make permanent the ban. Yet another nail in our and the Republicans coffins.

Have you heard about the "projected" cost of the new prescription drug benefit giveaway? The one that was the Repubs idea to win votes?

Something like 400 Billion? And that's ESTIMATED!

And renewing the ban costs virtually nothing. Think about that. :fire:
 
Make sure you mention when you contact your legislators that ...
if legislation to renew the AWB is attached as an amentment to an existing bill....any bill...Medicare reform, cheap prescriptions, free beer on Tuesdays, early childhood education funding package, repeal of the income tax....anything...it MUST be removed or the entire bill defeated. I'm sure somebody...Feinstein, Schumer, or one of their junior cannon fodder will attempt to introduce a rider if they cannot get a bill introduced to outright renew the AWB.

Folks, these hooraws are in Washington because WE sent them there. I don't need to remind anyone that they work for US. They don't seem to understand the pecking order up there anymore. The voter is the boss, not the congresscritter.

Employees who don't perform to the job specifications and responsibilites are soon found in the unemployment line checking the classified ads.

It needs to be the same for congressmen and senators who do not represent and vote the desires of their constituency.

Write them, monitor their introduced legislation and votes and in the next election cycle, vote accordingly.

Don't lie. Hold them too it. If we say we will not vote for them if they pass the ban and we do then we have lost all the power we have. Make them fear us.
 
How bout if the assault weapons stuff is coupled with a repeal of the ban on creation of machine guns? So in effect you could have whatever you wanted as long as it was registed?

I already got a reply from one of my congresscritter...
 
You can rest assured that the only way the machinegun ban will go away is if the Supreme Court steps up to the plate and makes a decision on the true meaning of the Second Amendment. There is no way on earth congress will ever repeal that wonderfully useless piece of legislation.

For the most part, the Republicans are not going to let an AW ban be voted on, especially in the House, before the election. Bush does not want that hot potato to land on his desk before November, 2004.

What happens after the election is what we need to worry about. Even if the Republicans retain control of everything, they may want to gamble and approve a new AW ban right away. Their logic behind this is by getting the whole problem resolved now, we would forget about their treachery prior to the 2008 elections and even if we did blame Bush, we'd still vote for whoever replaces him.
 
I just sent a letter to both of my senators. I doubt it will do any good, but so be it.

I sent them this:
Dear Senator,

I am writing you today to urge you not to support the following: S. 1431 To reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes. I believe that the first Assault-Weapons Ban was a mistake, and this would be furthering the mistakes of previous legislators and compounding the severity of their mistakes. This law only keeps assault-style firearms out of the hands of law-abiding firearms owners, and does nothing to keep them out of the hands of criminals.

I personally would like to own a rifle that has been banned for the joy of shooting it, and possibly for protection. But I cannot, because it is against the law. I will not risk going to prison just because I want to posess an object of intrigue and fascination. I infact just became a lawful gun owner, and find myself more and more facinated with them. I like firearms, and hope to get a small collection someday, hopefully with a lawfully-owned (yet politically-incorrect looking) assault-style firearm. There are many others like me, that are simply looking for a nice collectors piece, that we can take out and enjoy.

An assault-style firearm is simply an object that looks a certain way, which people have a problem with. They have a problem with the look of the firearm. Please do not further the ignorance of those that wish to ban something because of its looks. This sort of behavior has no place in a hall of government, and the Legislative body is a place that should be making knowledgeable decisions based on facts and not on conjecture and opinions.

I hope you will heed my pleas and vote against this ban, and vote against any bill that has any sort of anti-Second Amendment proposals attached to it.

I cut the part about the collection simply because explaining yourself weakens your position. What if he thinks that's a lousy reason to have a weapon? You're entitled because you're an American citizen; no other reason is necessary.

Well said over all...It's just five weeks since school ended, and I haven't corrected anything in awhile. :D
 
stop being such a sissy and draw a line in the sand. I'm gonna ask mine to vote to ban all guns. Lets get this over. It needs to happen. Win or loose, live or die, americans need to be identified. Not by the country they live in but by the ideals they espouse. The 2nd amendment is there so we can throw the government out if they get out of control, and I don't think there is a honest american that can say they haven't.

Semantically, I'd ditch the "assault style firearms" reference. I just call them "certain semi-automatic weapons banned based on cosmetic features".
