What happened to Colt?

"We should forward this entire discussion to Colt, and see if they respond."

You don't think they're aware of their market share and financial situation? I can see them now... "Dang it, we could design a new gun and borrow a bunch of money and get rich. Why didn't we think of that?"

Guill,
Apologies, it was for Gym.
You both look so much alike... :)

One is more then I can take... The only reason I can survive is because New Mexico is between Texas and Arizona. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Wow, I'm almost sorry I started this thread....almost!

Yeah, I wondered why the Great Gun Company (from the state wherein I was born) went down the tubes.

The last piece I bought from them was my ca. 1994 King Cobra.

No John
Just to show how people in the gun community feel about them, sometimes they don't know until it's brought to their attention. Obviouslly they know what they did, but maybe they don't know how we feel about it. Maybe there is a sympathetic ear there, there may be a board member who feels similarlly and has been told that the customers are happy with what we give them. Can't hurt.

"maybe they don't know how we feel about it"

Are you pulling my leg?

Of course they know, it's what they do everyday and they've been hearing about for years. Okay, make that decades. They attend trade shows. Heck, I bet some of them even have a telephone and a computer connected to the internet.

Brent is the custom shop manager and posts on a couple of forums. He's on the linked thread for instance. See post #17.

Colt is very much aware of how Colt fans feel.

Speaking of trade shows, a Colt vice president who's been with the company for over 30 years told me three for four years back that at every SHOT Show & every other trade show she attends for Colt the number one question asked is "Are you going to bring out DA revolvers again?"

This is the same VP who gave me a $1500 estimate for the Python, IF it were coming back. Which, again, it isn't. :)

Can anyone tell me if the Colt they have bought in recent years is any good or not? I have two Colt 1911's bought in the last two years that are better than my Springfield Milspec which now sits in my safe because I like the Colts that much more. Nothing wrong with the Springfield, but the Colts seem better finished, a bit more accurate, and 100% reliable.

They make a good gun in the 1911 auto pistol, I am looking for a CCO myself, on trade. It's the ideal size for me, and I just want a reliable 45 other than my GOVT models and my Glock 45. My other choice is a S&W E series. I just love the way it looks. Also the scandium frame model they made for Gunsite, is a possibility.

Dennis is absolutely correct (he oft is)

They know.

Is it about profit? Marketability? Mission statement? Lack of resources?

Their track record of incompetence is such that it is hard to tell
