What happened to Dick's Sporting Goods?

Not stirring the pot here but what happened with dicks sporting goods? Visited one today and no camo, ammo, hunting gear or ammo!!! I was honestly shocked! I don’t follow this stuff so legit asking! I know they had the ar15 crap but getting rid of hunting gear too? C’mon!!! I was gonna buy some workout gear but after that the hell with that company!!

Just living up to the storm that they started. They started off as a sporting goods store in a pretty true sense, then they decided to implode on themselves by making a political move that handicapped them. They are nothing more than a Hibbet or Finish Line now.

I have slowly but surely shifted my purchases to patriotic and supportive companies over the last decade. For my sporting goods needs, I now buy most things online from the big boys who are dedicated to us and our rights. As for Dicks, good riddance. Maybe they will go out so that the local mall can get a new tennant that cares about its customers.

I think they have gone to the "wal mart" model concerning firearms and related merchandise. The one near me sells guns & hunting stuff. There is one in Tampa in a mall that is as you describe- no sign of hunting merchandise of any kind.

They need to make room for a rack of men's capris, and men's yoga pants.

There's nothing in that store you can't get cheaper online. Don't even need to bother with a boycott, they already suck.

After they very publicly announced they were no longer selling "assault" rifles gun owners stopped shopping there. All sales are down and they can no longer sell other guns or anything hunting related. Some stores are still carrying hunting supplies and firearms, at least for now, others have already moved away from that segment.

If they keep selling Remington Gun Club shells for $3.98/box then I will probably always be going there.

The funny thing was I went to Walmart across the road that never carried guns or hunting supplies cause it’s in a preppy type city and I saw guns I never saw at Walmart before. Stainless savage rifles, mini14, semi auto shotguns, rifles with thumb holes stocks, ammo and camo.

You basically get what happened in very few posts. They changed the products they wanted to carry, for business/political reasons that were not palatable to a portion of their customer base. Then crowed loudly about it. Not working too well IMHO.

The biggest miscalculation wasn't they would lose customers buying the deleted items, but those same customers going elsewhere to buy the deleted items and at that same new store, buying the items they previously bought at Dicks, basketballs, shoes, football. Said items being more durable not replaced every year.
WalMarts did the same thing and got away with it because people still go into the store for groceries, clothes, then amble to sporting goods and buy fishing line. Complain about them, yes; buy from them still, yes. Convenience of items 4 aisles away sells more then drive thru burgers!

And in the shopping world (e.g. WalMarts) there's always ''Keep Momma happy'' which is from the root cause, ''Momma said'' (come on fella's...you know LoL)

Dicks lost 3 sales with lots of folks. The black gun and the kids new ball gloves, football gear etc., and subsequent future purchases.

They made a decision based on politics and emotion and people showed their displeasure by not shopping there. Now their stock and profits are falling like a rock.
