Hey guys, just curious as to what seems to me to be a lack of folks from DFW posting hunting rifles in the classified section anymore. I bought a nice Weatherby from there a while ago but it seems like the "action" has somewhat dried up on bolt action hunting rifles. Anyone notice the same thing? Is there a hot new site that guys are using? Thanks in advance for your observations.

There could be many, many reasons why there are no posts from DFW in the trading post. Could be we only have so many members from that area, could be no one is selling at the moment, or it could be something else. It really is impossible to tell.

As a guess, there's been enough "recovery" that the number of people selling their swords to keep their cloaks has decreased to near nil.
We'll need another period of "recovery" to build back up to where people can start shopping and trading for "good stuff" again.

Also, DFW is a pretty big place, too--I was sore tempted to head to the Weatherford show today (still might tomorrow).

I don't think it's limited to DFW or the trading post here. Nor do I see it as being limited to just bolt action rifles. I notice it on most of the sites I frequent...as you said, the supply of used guns seems to have dried up quite a bit. I think it has a lot to do with the current "doom and gloom" with guns and ammo. It seems like people are just less inclined to sell due to uncertainty. I think people are also buying more guns/ammo...same reason.

It's not just forums either. Several retail sites I browse for used guns have also dried up. It's kind of a bummer for sure. It does seem like our local Armslist page has a pretty steady flow of guns available but most of the people selling are asking way too much (in my opinion) but I do see an occasional deal. If you haven't checked out the Armslist page for DFW, it may be worth you while.

It's getting to that time of year that people are using them or trying out the one they just picked up. Give it a few months, they will be back.

I've had much better luck selling on other sites. Not sure why. Had a times I offered FTF only transactions but people would post in my thread "I'll take it if you ship". When a FTF didn't happen and I offered to ship to them, they were nowhere to be seen...wouldn't even return my PMs.

I am in the process of selling a rifle and this is what I seem to be running into. The two most asked questions are "Is it still available ?" and "Will you ship it?". The answer to both of those questions is yes, yet I will never hear back from them.

Stinks. Been there, done that. People with "high interest, ready to pay" suddenly disappear. At least write me back and say you aren't interested anymore...but ignoring me is rude if you ask me. This is coming from users with well over 1k posts, people I would consider active and browse on a daily basis.

The last 3 things I've had for sale I've simply skipped THR because it's not worth my time. My Classifieds experience is exactly opposite to how I feel about the rest of the website...so I've learned just to stay away on this site. Unsure why it's like that, but it is what it is. I just sell somewhere else

Buying and selling items is not the primary focus of THR. The trading post was added for members to use but we are not focused on wither or not the trading post moves a single item. There are more than a few sales specific sites out there. Think of the trading post as a community garage sale and less of a driving force behind the site.
