What has more "felt recoil" between Sig P938 and Kimber Solo?

Pete, what kind of 9mm Mak gun were you shooting? I can tell you that the Polish P-64 is not a fun gun to shoot. My brother got one. He has a Russian Makarov, however, and it shoots quite nice. But I do see what you're saying.

American Rifleman last year or so commented on how sharp the Solo recoil was. Don't get that often from that mag. Great looking gun though, and they had no problems with function.

I don't want any gun in my pocket, nor do I want my house keys in holster. I bet they both suppress recoil just fine. It's kind of something you've got to learn to expect with a gun

I have both pistols and both are very well made. The Solo seems to have a slightly sharper recoil than the 938 but it is subjective. I have carried both in front pocket in holsters and carry them condition one. Never had a problem with a safety deactivating. But I always pocket carry in a well fitted holster. I will say that even though the Solo is double action I would not carry it in a pocket without the safety activated. The double action is extremely smooth and relatively short and light. As far as safetys coming off by themselves I could see this happening far easier with the Solo due to it's design. Can't ever envision the safety coming off on the 938. In fact I have never had a safety disengage on any 1911 style pistol no matter how I carried it.

They may have straightened the Solo out now, but that had major feeding problems with them in the beginning. I believe now they still require Speer premium ammo. It's in the manual that comes with it, if I remember correctly it should only use 115 grain bullets, I will double check now.
I just found this on the first try,
Viewed in that light, an FTF isn’t a mere inconvenience; it’s an invitation to a funeral. An unreliable self defense pistol is a liability of monstrous proportions. Jumpy yet? Making things worse, Kimber inadvertently contributed to the rumor mill by demanding the exclusive use of “premium” ammunition to feed this silvery sweetheart. For the uninitiated, premium means “really effing expensive,” which implies that the Solo is a delicate little pistol that cheap range ammo would somehow damage.

It's a good review, this from the same article
I’ve fired a bunch of tiny-nineys and they are all just a bit snappy. Naturally, some are snappier than others. The little Solo was quite snappy. Not as snappy as a Louisiana swamp turtle, but snappy nonetheless. Although the gun didn’t try to hop out of my hand as fast as my monthly income, muzzle flip was prodigious and not easily controlled.
The guy actually liked the gun, but thought it was overpriced, and the amom thing bothered him
Also from the 1911 forum, you may be interested in what owners said there, also positive for the most part, the thread covers 2 years of owners experiences.

Yea Kimber advises nothing less than 124 gr. and recommend golden sabres, hydro shocks and I think the premium load from Speer for the Solo. Use these and it works fine. Have to agree not an all day fun gun to take to the range:D
But for pocket carry its a good choice. It has that nice carry melt like a used bar of soap;)

Thanks for all the posts, guys. If I could find a Solo for cheap enough, I'm still interested. But at this point, I should really be more frugal. The expense of the pistol and the requirement of premium ammo may be too much for me at my current financial situation. I have a Shield that works well enough, so I'll keep running with that.

Please continue the discussion if you wish. I've enjoyed reading the posts.

Actually, I went to the range yesterday and I think I'm good with the Shield. At 7 yards, I am keeping the shots in a fairly tight pattern. Also, for a small gun, it has pretty mild recoil, so I'm just going to go with it. Been 100% reliable thus far, so that's great. Just an FYI.

Nothing wrong with the Shield. Actually I find nothing wrong with the Solo or Sig. Of the three, the Solo would be my first choice. I had an opportunity to shoot one recently in a BUG match. It ran perfectly with my BBI 125 gn reloads. My single stack 9mm carry is a PF9 , one of the very first sold in my state. It too has been totally reliable and accurate enough for decent body hits out to 25yds or so. I usually carry something a little larger most of the time, so I'm not in the market for another pistol in that class. The old PF is still going strong.
