What (if any) modern production revolver is most similar to a S&W K-Frame?

I'm thinking about buying a revolver thats similar in size to a K-Frame, but I think I'd prefer to buy a new gun, rather than a used one. Could you please tell me what is most comparable in size to a K-Frame? Thanks in advance.

Smith continues to offer the Model 10 and Model 67 as new items. They also offer numerous variations on the L-frame. All are visible at Smith-wesson.com

Taurus M66, near identical except doesn't have the flat spot on the forcing cone and IMHO a little stronger. But, there are plenty of Taurus haters who don't agree. I have two of 'em, though, and both are more accurate than the M19 I had and just as well built, just as good a trigger.

Rossi's M 971 is a little lighter, but close to a K frame. I had one, functional, decent accurate, sorta liked it, but it wasn't a Smith far as fit and finish. Newer ones look better, but I haven't owned a 971 in a while. I had a firing pin snap on mine, but got it fixed. Only problem I had with it in probably 8K rounds of mixed hot and .38.

Rugers. The GP100 is porky, more like an L frame. The SP101 is smaller, about a J and a half frame. However, if you don't mind the lack of a round in the cylinder, the SP101 is built stronger than any K frame ever made and is one HECK of a good shootiin' firearm. I have one, love it.

I'm just backing up MCgunner's assessment of Taurus. I have a Model 66 since 1989 with lots of rounds through it. I had a Model 19 S&W that had flame cutting and was loosening up after about 6 years (in the 70s) I sold. The Taurus has more through it and still is going strong.

I'm betting you were shooting ammo that was topped with a 125gr bullet. You would have done no damage to your M19 with 158gr ammo.

Are you really trying to say a Taurus Model 66 revolver is better than a S&W Model 19? Really?? WOW!!

I did use some 125 gr but most of the magnums were 158 gr. The thing about using 125 gr in a K-frame magnum was not really common knowledge (if known at all then).

I'm not saying any Taurus is better than any S&W Model 19. Just the Taurus I have is better than the Model 19 I had. I've also seen a S&W Model 66 cylinder become a 3 round cylinder after 400 rds. That hasn't made me swear off S&W. I have a S&W 66 but it doesn't have that many rounds through it yet I'll let you know if it outlasts the Taurus. Might take a couple of years.

Depending on the era's metallurgy, the 66 can be stronger. Though, again, if we're going with an era where the Taurus would be stronger than the Smith, we're looking at a sinfully sweet Smith trigger and finish to compensate.

Take a look at the current Smith L frame models 619 and 620. They are slightly bigger than a K frame, but have the same grip as a K frame.
