What would you buy, carry, use, shoot, etc. if military calibers and calibers in heavy use by law enforcement were not allowed to be owned by civilians? Some countries have this prohibition already and who knows what the future may bring in our glorious land.
No 9x19, .40S&W, .45ACP, .223, .308. Feel free to add to the list as I'm sure I've missed a few.

Personally, I think we'd see a rise in revolver ownership and a renaissance of 38 Super, 9x23 Winchester might make a go of it, and maybe even a new cartridge.

Well, I already own a .380 p232 and a .32 mag j-frame, so they are ok.
I guess I'd dump the Glock 19 and get a 1911 in .38 super. Or one of those Beretta knock-offs Taurus makes in .38 super.
Of course, no agencies I know of carry .44 magnum, so a Ruger Redhawk or a Desert Eagle in .44 mag might come in handy.
Now that I think about it, few agencies carry .38 special any more so a S&W model 10 would do fine. I'd fill it with the FBI load since the FBI no longer carries it.

Probably a big revolver of sorts. .44 mag-.454 something I know no one uses for personal defense. If a semi was in my hands it would probably be a powerful unused round. .38super or maybe another 9mm. 9x21 or 23 or what ever is allowed. No .380s or smaller in my hands, nope!

Get a 9x21mm barrel for every 9mm we own (or 9x23mm, I can't remember what the number is), and rechamber the carbines for 5.6mm FUA and 7.6mm FUA.

Seriously, that will never happen in this country. Most of our popular centerfire cartridges started out as military rounds (9mm, .45, .223, .308, .30-06).

I'd get a 10mm 1911.

Sure, it was designed for the government, but it's not really used anymore (afaik).

That said, I don't intend to not use calibers because 'my betters' tell me I can't anymore.

mm revival of the 10gauge

more than likely makers would just go around and make new rounds, almost identical to the baned ones. much like they do for California .50's

although 7.62X25 is a very good round

I think at that point of tyranny it would be perfectly acceptable to own any military caliber you wanted. They would be available on many street corners in some form.

I think the more important consideration is why every American would have laid down like a f****ing dog and surrendered their rights on such an important matter. The private ownership of firearms was not primarily created for one's defense against bad guys breaking into your home, or trying to steal your property. The most important factor of being able to privately own firearms is to prevent the tyranny of government. For Christ's sake, one must always question the motivations of those who would desire to make decisions for you! Give up all those calibers and you might as well be waving your privates at the government; just ask the Chinese, N. Koreans, and the Jews during WWII.

Simple...the police and military would have to get a new caliber!

Simple...the police and military would have to get a new caliber!

By the way...it will never happen. We will always be allowed the standard military calibers.

I'd carry my revolvers 100 percent of the time. I'd hope to be able to convert my P90 to another caliber, maybe, like 10mm? But, I reload for it, so I'd keep it and keep my mouth shut, just not carry it. .45 isn't a service caliber anymore, though, so would it really be banned? Then again, .38 special and .357 have been military/law enforcement calibers in the past. If they got banned, I'd be SOL except for .22LR and .380 ACP. But, then, .380 in Europe is a military/law enforcement caliber....

Hmm, guess I'd carry my NAA mini and buy a NAA .22 mag maybe, or the new revolver in .32Mag when it becomes available, ever. I ain't gonna lose sleep worrying about this scenario, though. I'll do what I have to do when I have to do it.

Since Frez says fists are more effective than .22, I guess I could just leave all my .22s at the house...

if not .357Sig (Texas LEOs use them), then I'd use my .357 magnum SW586 until I buy a 10mm Glock. These will have to do until my M1911s are rebuilt to fire .38 supers.

browningguy,

I think the point is that certain calibers could be outlawed. I am guessing that would mean you would have to hand over your supply.
