What in the World!? (M1 Carbine Pistol)

Those are factory models, built and sold as pistols. I remember seeing them as a kid back in the 60s & 70s

Not Fun

Would be a fun SBR project . . .

Actually, "fun" would not be my first choice for an adjective.

There have been a number of .30 Carbine pistols. Immediately to mind are the Enforcer mentioned above, the 1944 S&W (hand ejector) revolver, The AMT Automag III, the Thompson Contender, and the Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine.

One of the most common commentaries on .30 Carbine fired from a pistol is the astonishingly loud muzzle blast and daylight-visible fireball, the result of a substantial amount of powder still burning as the bullet exits the barrel.

I'm a big fan of the M1 Carbine, but after doing a little research on pistols chambered in what was "obviously a pistol cartridge," I decided to make my "companion" rifle/pistol set a .38/.357 carbine & revolver instead.

You could custom load the .30 Carbine with a different powder more suitable for pistol use, but then that would probably require modifications to the carbine to handle it properly, and you'd pretty much be on your own for ammo after that.

Probably the worst pistol report scenario I can imagine is a home defense action involving something like the Enforcer or the Blackhawk in an enclosed space without hearing protection. Something like that could cost you some or all of your hearing.

And that, I believe, disqualifies it for use of the word "fun."

Your mileage, of course, may vary.

I almost bought a Universal Enforcer as my very first pistol when I turned 21.

My wiser friends steered me towards a Ruger Super Single Six instead.:)

Several decades and many guns later my lust for a semi-auto pistol shooting a rifle cartridge was finally satisfied with a Draco AK in 7.62x39. It's a blast!:D

Well, IMO, fun is in the eye of the enjoyer. Just because a gun has a lot of muzzle flash and is loud doesn't necessarily degrade the fun factor. In fact, it can add to it! Also, not every weapon's usefulness should be gauged on whether or not it is "appropriate" for home defense, neither the Enforcer or a Blackhawk ever struck me as guns designed for "social use" indoors. Besides, they're ALL loud when shot indoors.

Now, to the subject at hand, I just picked up a Universal Enforcer at a local gun show last weekend. It is in very good shape, came with original mag plus two 30rd mags and 100rds of ball ammo. I'd seen the gun before at another show but passed on it, though it was tagged $500 for the package, which I didn't think was too bad. However, this time when I saw it I was ready to do some trading and had stuff the dealer felt he could move easier than the Enforcer so we made a deal we were both very happy with.

It's a neat gun, lightweight and handy, reminds me of an old fashioned version of my Kel-tec PLR-16 5.56 pistol.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, maybe this afternoon. I'm really looking forward to because I'm betting it's going to be all kinds of fun!! Especially if it's really loud and has a big muzzle flash, like my PLR-16!:neener:
