What is a good, cheap gun?

I get so tired of hearing what a good deal used S&W revos are, around here (and we have a lot of pawn shops here) one in good condition will cost at least $325. A severely abused one may be talked down to $150, if you really want it.

These same "deals" can be found at the local gun show.

Browns Fan,
The last used S&W Model 10 I bought, at a Fort Worth gun show, was $189.95+tax.
If it was still in the S&W box it would be hard to tell it wasn't brand new.
That was almost two years ago.

Before that I got a VERY NICE Model 15 from a pawn shop for $165 OTD.

The last new in the box, but older S&W Model 36, three inch barrel I bought was $300.

Model 10 "shooters" show up at the shows a lot for in the $150 to $170 range.

I think maybe there's a big difference in gun availability and price throughout the country.

I bought this Model 10 in 1960 for $65 and it still does the job. :)

I suggest you look into either the RAP 401 (9mm) or RAP 440 (.40S&W).
These are high quality guns from South African Republic Arms, and they look/feel/function a lot like Sigs.
I'm not saying they are at the Sig quality level, but for ~ $250 they are a REAL good bargain.
I have the 440 and have enjoyed it's flawless funtionality for ~ one month.
Just letting you know about the short eval time here, in all fairness.
