I never really thought about handgun hunting until I got my first revolver the other day. I know it's only March but I can't wait til this fall for deer and college to let out for hogs. But I'll start off mine is a .357 mag Ruger Bisley Vaquero (New Model) with 158 grain buffalo bores. Feel free to post pics too I would, but don't have a digital camera at the moment.

I only started hunting last season, but I'm itching to take a deer with my Old Vaquero .357 mag. Thought I would try the Hornady LeverEvolution, but Deercrazy mentioned Buffalo Bore. I'm sure those would have more "thump".
I'm definitely going to try to get at least one next season with the Vaquero. Oh, and since I don't have pics to post, mine is stainless with the 4-5/8" barrel:D

I've been a dedicated handgun hunter for decades now. Been through some fine .44 Magnums (an early Ruger 3-Screw Super Blackhawk, a Thompson Center Contender, and finally my favorite . . . a S&W Model 29-5 topped with a first generation Holosight.

Favorite bullet and load? Easy . . . no d__mn hollowpoints for me. The field results of the Federal 300 gr. "Castcore" hard cast flat nose lead bullet are totally convincing.

Wonderful combination on deer AND hogs!

tauras mod 66 357 with a 6 inch barrel and a tauras 454 raging bull use the 357 for brush shots and the 454 for up to 150 yard shots I only hunt deer so far but I think the 357 would down a hog to.

I use these.
I prefer a fiber optic sight as most of my hunting is in low light.

When I hunted with handguns, I had two favorites. The first was a SAA clone in 45 long Colt with a 5 1/2" barrel. I used 255 grain cast bullets and a full case of black powder. I got about 950 fps with that combination, more than enough for complete penetration on game animals.

The other revolver was also cut for the 45 long Colt but was a 6" barreled S&W M25-5. The load in that one was a 280 grain Keith bullet at 950 fps. It also gave complete penetration.

Both were easy to carry and accurate enough for the style of hunting I prefer.

6 1/2" M-29 S&W... Took a Russian Boar in Tennessee some years back, big one, about 375, 400 lbs. Was a hunt on horseback, wild time, it worked as advertised. One round, loud squeal, 180 degree turn and dropped. Downward shot, heart lung.. 240 gr W-W hp.

I did take a deer some years back with a M-19 ,6" loaded with a 125 gr Serria Soft Point handload, 12grs 4756.

Didn't start out too, but I fell asleep in the stand, when I woke up, he was about 10-12 yards away. Too noisy and too much movement to ready my rifle, so I slipped my revolver out and popped him in the neck with my pistol. One shot, dropped like a rock, must have opened well, exit wound was impressive... no bone involvement.

Ruger Old Model Blackhawk unconverted (of course), 7 1/2" barrel, 45 Colt with 300 grain JSP's.
