What is in your HD shotgun now?

I keep chamber empty, hammer dropped, safety off.

Keeping the chamber empty, gun cocked and safety on may give a bit more safety -- someone who gets to the gun first may not be able to figure out how to load it for a few critical seconds.

Pick one...any one... they are all ready to go

And a few more that aren't in any pictures- As Dave M says, BA/UU/R

#4 buck load ..remy 870- 8 shot with surefire light/forearm...in a good place thats a secret.

D: Mossberg 590 with Ghost Ring sights (#50663 so no speed feed stock)

Kept with empty chamber and magazine full (cruiser ready) - eight rounds of Winchester Super-X 2-3/4" #1 and #4 buckshot in no particular order.

In gun safe when I leave the house during the day, between bed and computer at night.

My choice for Home Defense...

...is a Mossberg 500 Cruiser ( pistol grip ) with 20" barrel stoked with 8 shots of Federal Tactical 00 Buck ( 2 3/4 ) one in the pipe...safety off. Grab and shoot... Used to keep chamber empty...in order to rack slide as a warning. Now I don't even think they deserve a chance...

Six rounds of Remington Reduced-Recoil 00 Buck, 4 more on the sidesaddle and two low recoil slugs.

I live in an apartment, and I can't really imagine having a need for the two slugs, but why not? I didn't really see the point in adding two more rounds of buckshot, as I'm of the opinion that if I can't stop a threat with 10 rounds of 00 buckshot, then it just wasn't meant to die.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm... lemme see

1 .58 enfield with a HD load next to it
a mossy 500 and a maverick 88 with enough bird to pulp him
plus 3 .30 cal bolt rifles (though id rather not use them)

i suppose the only thing that would slow me down is picking which gun to shoot him with :neener:

im lucky enough to live in a town where car crashes are still big news. i dont feel the need to have any guns loaded. when away from home i like the mossberg 500 with 00 buck. but if im traveling light, like on a motorcycle trip, i just take my old ruger mark I. its what im most comfy with.

Mossy 500, 20" barrel with six shots of 3" #4 buck in the tube. Safety on within arms reach of my sleeping position. No kids and my bedroom stays locked when I am not there. The plan is to hold out in my bedroom with the door shut and locked(how I sleep) and wait for the police to arrive. Roomate's plan is the same. This way we dont both venture out to investigate the bumps in the night and misidentify one another or our other roomate. Whoever can help themselves to anything outside of our bedrooms.

I need an ammo belt, side saddle, and more ammo. I am also looking to acquire a S&W 686 for backup.

My roomate has the electronic ear protection that works VERY well at amplifying low sounds. I was thinking it would be a good way to hear whispers and whatnot. Anyone include them in their SD plans?

Winchester 1300 defender (fiber optic sights) loaded next to my bed when at home, locked up when i am away. Federal Tactical #4 buck loaded 1 down in case i want to load a slug. 6 shot sidesaddle (federal tactical), and 4 shot buttcuff (winchester hollowpoint slugs).

(B) My HD shotgun (Remington 870 Express, 18" bbl, 2 shot mag ext) sits in the safe with an empty chamber and the magazine stocked with 5 rounds of 2 3/4 #0 buckshot (yes, only single aught).

The safe is 2 seconds from my bed, and my CCW is available as a deterrent until the safe is open. I'd rather have it more accessible, but a 3-year-old and a new one that'll be crawling soon make me take extra precautions.

870 Mag, 18" police barrel and M3 light, in closet, loaded with birdshot, then #4.

Apartment. Can't guarantee how many walls #00 might or might not go through. :scrutiny:

Boxes of Speer Lawman #00 locked up next to it to be grabbed in case of disaster and/or post-disaster outdoor defense from looters.

In an apartment you're using 00 buck? Man, unless you have brick walls, I'd hate to be your neighbors. Sorry, but I think you ought to look up the ballistics of that. If you have typical sheetrock-and-stud walls, whatever misses is going to keep on going through and possibly kill someone. :scrutiny:

And SLUGS?! Keep in mind that THAT is the equivalent of a Civil War minie ball, if you've ever seen things like one buried halfway in a cracked wooden joist halfway through a building in Gettysburg. A slug could keep going through two, three walls, and absolutely kill anyone unfortunate enough to be in its path.

You're in an apartment. Lower the ballistic impact, I'd say. 00 is for a house buffered by open land. HD is great, accidentally killing a neighbor's baby isn't. :p

This week mine is loaded with 12 ga. #4 Hevi-Shot. My home has brick walls 14" thick with about an inch of plaster on the inside.

My 870 is out on loan for duck season.

Maybe I should buy some ammo and load my new gun with 3.5" goose loads. Nah.

Under the bed

D) - Mossberg 590 7 rounds 3" 00 Buck in the 8 round tube (save the spring) chamber empty (no chance a wayward toe under the bed will set it off accidentally), safety off (don't want to F/U when groggy at night) 3 more rounds of 3" 00 Buck and 3 1oz Slugs in an elastic shell holder on the buttstock.

No kids, so I'm not worried about little fingers.

It's probably the best HD firearm choice for me (rather than pistol or rifle) due to living in a crowded suburban neighborhood in a duplex with a lawyer/landlord living in the other half! Very unlikely that anyone would be hurt who is outside my house.

Right now I have the 590 hidden, but readily accessible. It's kept cruiser ready with eight rounds of the Win 00B 12-pellet load.

Mossberg 500a, 5rds of 00 Buckshot in the mag, 3rds of 00 buckshot and 3 rds if 2 3/4" slugs in the sidesaddle. Cruiser Ready, next to my bed at night and in the closet during the day.

mod 31 remington with 1 oz slugs backed up by 00 buck shot did i say it had an 19 in bbl

Loaded and accesable

My shottie is in our bedroom with 1-1/2 oz. #4's in the mag, hammer dropped on an empty chamber. So I don't have to hit the release half asleep.

Technically, here, it's a pistol but it's a shot-thrower too.

What's in your butt ... cuff?

This is a "will soon be".

(I just got my 870P yesterday. Due to an ongoing move into a new business location, clouded still by carpenters, electricians & plumbers, with boxes piled high and chaos on the floor, I haven't even had time to clean out the cosmoline yet.)

One rnd of #4 buck (just to let them know I mean business), followed by several rnds of #1 buck (just in case they didn't get the first message).

Five more in the (soon to be purchased) butt cuff.

Until then, the K9 is loaded with 7 (6 mag, 1 in the pipe) with 124 gr. Rem Golden Saber JHP's.

Hey, this must be the Pac NW in late autumn. It's been raining cats and dogs for the last 4 hours, nonstop.

Some kind of storm system blowing in off the Pacific.

I only have one shotgun, a 870 Wingmaster my father bought used around 1955. It's unloaded and hangs around in a closet.
