What would you consider the best revolver ever made?

I know, this is a can of worms, and I would find myself asking the OP "For what purpose?".

Lets just say if you were limited to only one handgun, a revolver, without consideration of price, which one would it be?

My opinion is the S&W 686 (pre-lock). Price not considered? I've never handled a Korth. But I don't like the looks of them as well as a Smith.

I'm kind of leaning toward the 586 (probably 4") as well, balance, accuracy, action smoothness, trigger pull, and overall looks.

I've always been a Ruger fan, and am tempeted to say stainless Security-Six, but that Smith is just so darn good lookin.

Smith and Wesson model 65-5 in 4" or a Ruger SP101 in 2 or 3". The Smith for everything gun and open carry, or if I have to conceal, the SP101 (what I carry every day). I like front heavy, can you tell? :)

"Best" ?

My favorite revolver of a bunch of them is my S&W M64-5 4"bbl, because I target shoot the best with it. Second would be a toss-up between my S&W M686-5 4" and my mid-80's Taurus 66 6" for the same reason. I have a early 90's Interarms Rossi 971 that I think is a very good revolver and tends to be a favorite farm-carry for me, because it's fairly light and I can hit consistently pretty well with it. I have a S&W M29-5 6" and a Ruger Security-Six 6" that are really cool and I like them, but I can't hit as well with them as the above favorites, so they're lower on my personal "best" list. ...But those are about the top o' the heap for me, in what I've found to be good ones worth keeping.

No.

It's like asking who makes the most accurate, durable, and well finished revolver. This isn't an opinion issue. We can objectively measure these criteria.

Ok. If everyone agrees on one gun, I'll buy it for you.

Best for what use? Pocket carry? Plinking? Long range accuracy? Carry? Home defense? Hunting? Collecting? Speed shooting? Car gun?

There are just way too many nice revolvers out there and too many different purposes to narrow it down to one specific model. Even if you try to narrow it down to the best all around revolver, you'll likely get a dozen different answers.

It is like asking "What is the best automobile?"

Time to make 918v's day and screw cackalak. Everyone agree that the 3 inch python is best!!!'

Ha ha. Awwwwww. So close!

BTW, your post #2 is hilarious. You can't even make up your own mind as to what's "best!"

I'm probably going to be tar and feathered, but given your conditions, I'd say an SP101.
It's not because it's the more finely made revolver ever, nor because of the incredible accuracy, etc... It's because if I'm only limited to one wheelgun, I want the one that can do anything. That's the idea behind the 3" .357mag SP101. Great trail gun, CCW, HD, tackle box, etc... it's not too big to be concealed, has DA for self defense shooting, light enough to be handy but strong enough to take a serious beating.

It's the one revolver that in my mind, can fit into every niche.

I can, but if you're offering to get me a $3000 gun I'm not going to argue.

My pick is the FA because it is super accurate, super durable, super powerful, and still portable. It will down a pterodactyl or a fat gangster wearing body armor and still fit in your pants.

Well, if you can get everyone to agree with you on that, you'll have yourself the "best" gun on me! :D

Happy 4th.

Best revolver? As in for a particular use? Most well made? Most consistently accurate (by brand/model)? Most well fitted? Most well finished? Most easy to shoot well? Most powerful? Most durable?

A lot of variables here to affect someone's perception of "best".

Fitting the most criteria in first place (excluding specific uses) and finishing in the top 5 in any of them would probably be a Freedom Arms Model 83. Followed closely by the Freedom Arms Model 97. These two are particularly good in the single action category.

If double actions are to be considered, then the prize would probably have to go to the Korth (although the actual performance does not justify the extra expense) as they are evidently amazingly well made. For us mere mortals though a Colt Python, Colt Anaconda, S&W N frame or L frame revolver would probably get the nod.

Had I to pick but one to cover as many bases as possible it would most likely be a Freedom Arms M83 in .454 Casull, premier grade, with a spare cylinder in .45 ACP, octagonal barrel (pure cosmetics...), and I would specify a 6.5" length if they would cut it for me in that length. Of course my bases covered are primarily concerned with outdoor and recreational use, as I am an auto-loader fan when it comes to self defensive side arms.

I've got a bunch of wheel guns both in SA and DA. No Colts so perhaps I'm a bit limited.

If it came down to a crunch and I had to leave the house with only one revolver and one semi I know that the revolver would be my Model 19 S&W along with a hockey sock full of full house .38Spl rounds.

I just recently got a Model 66. It's far too early to tell if that one will bump the 19 from its place of honor. But I have to say that it's looking like a great performer so far.

Mind you my Model 10 6" has the advantage of no adjustable sight to get tangled up or damaged. But the stouter barrel of the 19 would survive pistol whipping the zombies a touch better...

Nope, it would be the 19... yep... at least for now it would....

WHY IN BLAZES DID YOU HAVE TO ASK SUCH A EMOTIONALLY LOADED QUESTION ! ? ! ? ! ? :D
