What is the best revolver?

I am really impressed with my Ruger Security Six and its ability to stand up to decades of hard use without going out of timing. I don't think anyone makes a better revolver for the money. My expensive Smith & Wesson Model 29 needed timing work after only three years. My Redhawk has held up well so far but it is so heavy that I seldomly use it.

As many times as I've got into it with Bob Baker, I have to say, Freedom Arms 83.
BFR may now be better. Haven't got my hands on one of their guns. All 17-4 now, and, a ruger action, allowing you to carry a full cylinder, instead of 4 shots like the FA 83.
Ruger's old Maximum, done as a custom .500 Linebaugh Maximum, and, any FA 83 redone by Jack Huntington are my favorites.

Not that I have any of those.;)

Best? for me that would mean the most versatile, a 4in fix sighted 357. My SS Service six or a comparable Smith (mod. 65). Carries well, good enough for hunting at short range and in a pinch you can find ammo anywhere. Now if your talking my dream revolver......

for her 15th B Day I gave my daughter a 4 inch Model 19 working on the theory that it is the gun to have...if you are only having one

No opinion;)

Gp100

In my opinion, the GP100 is best revolver ever made. It is the most durable, most reliable DA .357 magnum ever made. In my opinion, it is also the most comfortable to shoot. What it lacks in style it makes up in strength.

While they aren't as refined as some other revolvers on the market when it comes to finish and trigger, both of these deficiencies can easily be overcome with a little work. It is possible to improve the GP100's deficiencies to make it comparable to competition in the areas of trigger pull and finish, but you'll never get a Smith or a Colt to the GP100s strength or reliability.

I've never heard of a GP100 going out of time. Nor have I heard of an ejector rod bending or unscrewing. This is saying something because people usually buy GP100s to shoot heavy .357 magnum loads. A GP100 is a no nonsense gun, and in my opinion is the best DA Revolver design ever conceived. Ruger's QC isn't always the best, but if you find a good specimen, you'll have a gun that you can truly depend on and pass on to your children's children.

It's solid frame, triple locking cylinder, it's front site, it's modular design, and it's grips make it the best DA design.

For SA revolvers, Freedom Arms are the best. Rugers are the second best SA designs.

Lets just say if you were limited to only one handgun, a revolver, without consideration of price, which one would it be?

S&W 357 k-frame. Like a Model 13 or Model 65 with a 4" barrel.

I would say the S&W K frame revolver. Really any caliber that was made. I have six K frames. M&P, M10,13,19 and 66. I fine few revolvers that match them overall. My sleeper revolver is a Ruger Police Service Six 4 inch. Tough as nails and alway there.
Regards,
Howard
