Depends... If you mean class III than $15k+

Semi-auto... Anywhere from $450 to $2500 depending on country of origin, model & condition.

Now seems like a lousy time to look for an AK. I've been seeing cheapo WASR's going for $600-$800 used. It almost makes me nauseous to think that those guns are really only worth about $200-$300 in reality. You can get a Mini 14/30 for the price of a bottom of the line WASR.

I bought my Yugo Underfolder in January of 2008 for $550 new. The same gun is selling for $800-$1000 used right now.

Don't let the gun mania get the best of you.

you can find them "new" but not really new for 550 if you arent getting ripped off.. otherwise, buy some KY and be ready to pay closer to 800 or a grand...

scary

Gee, about US$30-40 in central america; around US$20-25 in most of africa

But, those would be flagrantly illegal to "bring back" today.

used in the pawn shops here in central texas seems to be just under $800; $700 for bad finish/poor cosmetics. Show prices for NIB only about $100 more--dealers telling me the customers have all heard from [their relative] that AK are only $200, 300 'better get one quick'. Same set of tire-kickers wanting to know where the $79 SKS's are, too (gee, they're in the back, back of a decade ago . . . )

This is true... in some parts of the world, you could get a whole grip of home made AK's in exchange for a goat or two. But here in the US, $200-$300 is a fair rate for a cheap imported AK. Heck, WASR's were going for $325 new just a year ago locally.

Sadly, those days are long gone... unless you are traveling through Mogadishu...

the frustrating thing is that wholesale on ak's and ar's have only gone up about 5%... meaning... not much.. everything else is the seller's attempt to take advantage of a bad situation... complain about the economy and go up on the price... thats going to fix everything.. just as much as the peron who who wont buy a much needed house or car, not because they cant afford it, but because the "economy is bad" ... sorry... that was a bit of a rant... so.. overpriced AK's:banghead:

Alright now, I know that 4 years ago I thought that a milled AK was the end all be all of reliable military style weaponry. As a result, I paid more than I really should have for a NIB Arsenal SLR-95...$600 to be exact. As far as AK's go, I have not really seen the price of a "High end" AK fluctuate at the same level as entry level or other stamped guns have.
Sorry if this seems like a thread hijack, but......in reality, what are the people who waited until the hysteria began actually paying for these guns apposed to what fear mongors are asking for them?
I monitor the online auctions fairly frequently. In my opinion, these auctions depict the current fair market value of an item (In my mind this means, "What are the people....which is us by the way........actually willing to pay?) As of late, it seems as though some sellers asking astronomical prices are not really getting many offers at all. While some current auctions are ending in the $450-$550 range for a century Import. Could we be seeing an end to this madness?
Early last year, I purchased my second AK, a Ewbanks Polish underfolder for $510 online. Granted, I have yet to see any underfolders recently on any auction but really, do you think anyone is willing to pay more than $700 for this rifle? It is not for sale by the way!
Sorry for the rant, I am getting a little short on patience when it comes to the current operating costs of my favorite hobby.

But here in the US, $200-$300 is a fair rate for a cheap imported AK.
I haven't seen AK's even wholesaling below $289 since 2003 or 2004. Not to say there weren't a few, but the days of $200 AK's (excluding unconverted Saigas) are LONG gone.

I paid $379 for a very nice SAR-1 (Romanian) in 2003. Could have paid as low as $325 if I wanted to buy some with worse finish I saw at a gun show that year.

these days your money is better spend buying something from atlantic arms, arsenal, henderson defense or lancaster. The prices on these have not varied a whole lot if you buy them from their website or authorized distributors.

on the other hand the cheap AKs like the century builds such as SAR, WASR, Yugo, Romanians etc. have all doubled or trippled in price. When WASRs could be had for 250 a year ago and now command 600 while a $400 yugo now commands $1000 should show you something. All these guns are inferior in fit and finish to those mentioned up top, yet they roughly cost the same these days. so why buy a yugo when you can have an arsenal which is leagues better? When the panic dies down, the Arsenals and such will hold their value or go up, the overpriced century guns will not.

I spent $589 on a US made AMD 65 brand new at Dunham's about 3 weeks ago. Someone offered me $1000 for it today. I told them not a chance.

Blissfully ignorant!

Back to the original post, going rate is anywhere from $500 {Romanian kit} to around $2k+ { polytec legend} What differs are availability, country of origin, and features, {folding stock, bayo lug, threaded barrel, milled/stamped receiver} all are based on an inherently reliable design, pay whatever you want, it will be a bargain at some point.;)

Um you're definitely not going to get into an AK-47 for under 5 figures. Think ~$20,000 for a transferable full auto.

A semi-auto Romanian is probably upwards of $500 right now (WASR GP-10) whereas they were $320 when I bought mine a few summers back.

As far as I'm concerned you are a fool these days to buy these low quality variants at such high prices. Get a Saiga, convert and be done with it. I think it's a good idea to get more Saigas into the states and ultimately onto the used market anyway.

Our local shop received 12 new-ish WASR 10/63's 2 weeks ago and sold them all in a day for $475. Given the way things are currently, I thought the price was reasonable.

I see anywhere from $300-$1000 here in Denver. $300 is for kit built guns, $500 is where the WASRs start, $700 is where underfolders start, and then the $1000 is for people who think they can get that kind of money.

I'm glad I bought mine more than a year ago - though if those dang medical bills keep showing up I'm going to have to sell it anyway! :banghead:

Well what is a good price today for a SAIGA 7.62X39 ?

Hey Vector:

Earlier this year they were $450. Budsgunshop lists $306, but out of stock.

p.s. Check with Atlantic FireArms, they're advertising a Romanian AK47 for $379.
I went to Buds site but they have a list price of $644.00

Am I missing something?

---

Also forgive my ignorance but never having owned one, what is meant when people are saying the Saiga must be converted?

`

I just bought a really nice AK that needs a new butt stock (previous owner hacked it off) for $300, but I have a WASR-2 I am gonna sell at the rock bottom price of $300 since its a 5.56 with 3 mags.
Who in their right mind hacks off a like new stock? :banghead:

I just cant stand stupid!

Atlanticfirearms has them for $350: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct708.aspx

Take a look at the link and you'll see why they need to be "converted". Basically, you drill out some rivets, move the trigger assembly forward to it's proper position and add a pistol grip and buttstock. Full "conversion" would require a new foregrip and gas tube.

If you're thinking about a conversion, check out the Arsenal SGL-21 first: http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17015&cat=353&page=1

That rifle is about the closest you'll get to a new Russian AKM, for a decent price.
