I`m about to purchase another handgun and I would like opinions on the most accurate handgun that you guys know of that is no less in caliber than a .40 S@W Can anybody give me a suggestion on this? Two of my weapons that I own now and I consider accurate are the Ruger P94 and Beretta M9. Can you give me a suggestion?

Every gun is different in every hand, but it used to be said that the SIG was the most accurate out of the box .40 if i remember correctly.

But you said no less than a .40 so I say a LEATHAM series Springfield armory 1911 would be an accurate puppy.

A range loaner P220 is by far the most accurate service pistol have ever shot.

The Sig P220 is just a remarkable pistol. I own 3 and am going to buy a CPO 4th because I've never shot one that isn't amazingly accurate.

There is a difference if you are talking combat accuracy or actual tiny group accuracy. In .40 or .45 the most combat accurate are probably some of the custom shop production 1911's like Kimber/Spingfield/S&W, or the Sig 220. And to be honest any of those will shoot much better than most of us.

For tiny group accuracy the Sig X5, S&W 945, a high end 1911 such as Les Baer/ Ed Brown/ RRA target models.

For under a grand the choices really narrow. The Witness Elite Match pistols are extremely accurate, and I have heard good things about the competition model CZ the 75TS in .40 (not the standard model 75's, I have one of those) but have not actually got to see one shoot.

i would say that the xd is pretty darn accurate in .40 but i think the h&k is even better especially at rapid engagements and such. but it .45 up until the other day my ruger p345 was the most accurate gun that i owned now that is not the case my 1911 takes the cake.

I like spending other people's money.

Most accurate, .40 and over? I'd guess a racegun in .40.

Infinity is one, Dawson Precision and numerous others. Add the .45 into the mix and you have a bunch more to select from.

If you're liking the .40S&W, I believe STI ships over half their staggered column magazine handguns in that chambering. It's something of a specialty rather than a sideline chambering with that crowd (the single stacks remain predominately .45ACP, I believe).

browningguy said it. I have a Les Baer PII have never seen the like. CRAZY accurate, second time to the range at 15 yards all 8 shots went into the same ragged hole.

I believe the best handgun accuracy guarantee in the industry is 1.5" at 50 yds. I know Les Baer and Rock River offer guns w/ those guarantees. I believe the X5 is 2" at 50 yds. I honestly don't know anyone that can take advantage of that extra 1/2", though....

This is a 10 shot group at 50 yds. from a Les Baer with 1.5" guarantee. Some people could care less if their pistol will shoot nice small groups. I think it's kind of fun shooting from a rest.

Both of my SIG 229 pistols are extremely accurate but the winner in my stable is my CZ-75b (.40 S&W).

See this thread for my results. (Post #1 and Post #21).

I also did this just a bit ago.

Maybe it's me, but I'd bet it's the CZ :D

.

I went on a two year accuracy quest with the .40s&w.

I spent a lot of money I wish I had back. I traded through Sig, Glock and H&K pistols in .40 caliber.

The most accurate pistol in .40 was a Glock 20-10mm converted to .40 with a KKM conversion barrel. Shot several 2-1/2" or less groups at 25 yards.

The next best was the Sig P226 stainless. Great gun! 100% reliable too.

The H&K USP .40 was a very big dissapointment in the accuracy department. 6" groups werew the best I got. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big USP fan, and my USP .45acp is as accurate as it gets, but the .40 just didn't have it. Other USP .40 owners have had the same experience.

I owned a Glock 35 at the same time as the Glock 20- 10mm/.40, but I traded it because it couldn't hold a candle to the 10mm.

I shot a 4" XD .40 that seemed to have excellent potential, but never got to shoot it on paper.

Good luck.

Mmmmm, Rinspeed, are you sure that group was shot at 150 feet? Not calling 'BS' but that'd be the best 10-shot group that I've ever seen in my entire life. I mean, any scoped rifle would be proud to print that group.....you're saying you shot this with an iron sighted handgun?

Come on, fess up sweetheart. ;)

A good 1911 would be my first choice because of the single action trigger.

I have a Sig P226 in 40 and it is very accurate. It will outshoot any P-series Ruger or Beretta that I have ever shot.

AllisonDT, I would'nt doubt Rinspeed. All Les Baer pistols shoot tighter groups then the posted 3in or 1 1/2 group. I don't go to the range very much , until I got my LB I think I put about 500 rounds down range in the past 15 years. The second time to the range with my Baer all 8 shots went into 1 hole about 1 and a half inches and thats off hand. These things are crazy, I have been shooting guns for over 30 years serving as a Marine and on a PD. I have never shot anything like it.

Since the gun he shot it with is guaranteed by the maker to shoot 1.5" at 50 yards I'd believe it.

...

And shooting from a rest, with the right eyes, patience, steady-concentration, good ammo, I wouldn't rule out such results.. IMHO
