What is the OTHER rifle?

I'm not looking for comments on the politics of the event in question. I'm just interested in what the second rifle is, the one on the bottom, the one that's not the Martini.

I will say, though, that two men hiding on a hill with these rifles probably had a huge advantage over any men crossing open ground, regardless of what the other men were carrying.

Hard to see, but it looks like a Snider. British equivalent of our Trapdoor Springfield.

Snider carbines don't have a saddle rings on the side of the stock and Enfield carbines have full length stocks.

So it looks like it's either a Snider carbine that had a saddle ring added. Or it's an Enfield carbine that had the stock neutered just in front of the barrel band.

Interesting article. And very interesting that one of the rifles is a Martini. I saw examples of both of those rifles in Kabul back in 2003, and brought back a Martini for a friend who wanted one.
