I have a Tikka T3 hunter with the wood stock in 7mm Rem Mag. It is in very good shape but I just don't want to deal with the recoil anymore. I want to trade it for a Marlin 336 or a Marlin 1894 44mag. One gun shop has one, and another around here has the other.

I bought the Tikka new about 4 years ago and to be honest can't even remember exactly what I paid for it. I don't want to let the scope go, I bought it seperate anyways, so do you know what I could expect to get out of this rifle in a trade?

NIB the Hunter models are selling for $560-$600 or so, which would put the retail/private trade value for a clean lightly used specimen around $450 and wholesale/trade-in value probably at $350 or less.

Spend $30 for a better recoil pad instead of trading. Stock design has a huge effect on "felt" recoil vs "actual" recoil. The leverguns stocks have lots of drop and just plain hurt out of proportion to the amount of actual recoil they have. Instead of pushing straight back into your shoulder they tend to recoil up and hit your face with the comb of the stock. The straighter stocks on modern bolt rifles combined with the new hi-tech recoil pads make a huge difference.

New Tikka's around here are selling for under $600. You would be lucky to get between $300-$350. Many dealers won't even consider trades at this time of year for deer rifles that will sit for 6-9 months on their shelves. If they do, it will only be at a VERY good price for them.

Before taking that kind of loss I'd buy a better pad and learn to shoot the 7 mag.

trading is handy, but I also wanted to mention that I have had decent luck making more money by using gun broker. I'd look at the total difference you'll have to come up with and see if that is something you can stomach. If not sell privately and buy elsewhere.

I'll trade you my pudding cup...its about all I can afford right now...but it sounds like a great gun, I'm looking to buy a tikka this year, I'll second the find a good recoil pad mantra

Put a limbsaver recoil pad on it will make a world of differance unless of course u have a hankerin for somethin new.
