What is the worst recoil you have ever endured?

I can't say what it was on the internet. If I did, the BATF would be knocking on my door in the morning.

:uhoh: :uhoh:

[Thankfully, it happened a long.. long time ago and that the gun (which belonged to a friend) no longer exists! ]

I dunno...this months "Double Gun Journal" has an article about some maniac who built himself an 2-bore rifle.
:uhoh: Kee-ripes! That's a half-pound of lead in every shot!

OK, who wants to try it? (crickets chirping )

After reading about Frederick Courtney Selous' adventures with 4-bore rifles, I cannot even fathom a 2-bore.

Worst is the one you don't expect. My father-in-law handed me a Mossberg 500 supposedly loaded with 2-3/4" slugs. We were practicing on moving targets by rolling a tire with a cardboard insert down a hill. But he had inserted a 3" magnum 00 buck round into the magazine first, so my last shot was a surprise!

Other than that, most unpleasant recoil has been a T/C Contender in .35 Remington. A couple of shots and the heel of the hand says it's done for the day.

Without a doubt the most powerful rifle that I've ever shot was a .378 Weatherby that a guy in my platoon owned. It felt and sounded like an artillery piece on my shoulder. I've read that it is the most powerful rifle in the world and this notation includes the larger caliber Weatherbys and the famous Nitro Express elephant guns. Correct me if I'm wrong.
