What is this target for?

My friend gave me a stack of these. He said they are for pistol. I don't get what it is supposed to be or what I am supposed to aim at and/or accomplish. It kind of looks like a building with a doorway...

It is supposed to mimic your sight picture as you stare at the target with your pistol. The "Door Way" is your front sight post.

Target

It is a USGI sighting-in Target for M14's and M16's. At 25 Meters, the top X is point of impact for an M14. The bottom X is point of impact for M16's.
You use the same hold for both weapons but you set the sights different for each. This is supposed to give you your Battle Sight setting for each one.
