There are a lot of rifles in our safes...almost full of them really but I like the Springfield M1A, 308 with the scopes. I am not too keen on the Garand. I can't name the rest of them unless I go downstairs and look at their titles, brands, calibers, etc...:scrutiny:sorry, I am not really a rifle person...I know the capabilities of the M1A and had shot it several times but i can't conceal carry it...:D:D:D I am just a little old laydeeeeeee.....

What if your AR is in 22LR, does that still count as AR(5.56mm/.223) on your poll?

And seriously, how can you leave Mausers and Mosin Nagant's both off the poll?

With no mention of the Lee-Enfield #4, #5 or Mosin rifles, it is a grim day, indeed.:scrutiny:
Many rifles on the list remind me of the first scenes in the movie "Blade Runner" where the cold, gleaming, pitiless and impersonal technology of the future has replaced everything else.

Don't get me all wrong, were it not for the high ammo reload and gun prices of an authentic HK-91/G-3, FAL or M1A, at least one would be in my family. Having listened to accounts of skirmishes (not published) while standing in the original fox holes of E and F Companies near Bastogne Belgium last May,
the Garand is the next objective.
Maybe some member of the "Military Bolt-Action Underground " will create a new list.

CooperThunder: The very brief scene where Mick Dundee ("Croc. D. Part Two") returns fire from his cabin with a sporterized LE #4 helped 'inspire' me to buy my first LE.

I wouldn't have any of this save for the arrival of my Christmas rifle, a 581-series Mini-14. It already has my old Weaver K2.5 mounted on it, and I just picked up two twenty-round magazines and a crate of ammo to go along with it.

For anybody who was wondering, I intended this poll to survey which rifle types may be more or less commonly carried by an actual or potential modern day militia within the United States. As I stated in post #18:

I was interested in having an estimation of the actual commonality of the firearms listed for the purpose of being able to share parts, mags, and ammo during a future crisis situation in which many patriots may have to band together to fight a foreign or domestic enemy.

Although antique firearms could be used for the purpose of defending our nation, I would not consider that to be very practical, and so I did not include them in my poll (hence, no Enfields, Mausers, Nagants, or other manual-action rifles other than the Remington 700 - which is widely used by U.S. military and law enforcement).

If you don't have any of the rifles listed in the poll, it may be wise to acquire one or a few of the more widely-used models - such as the AK, AR, or SKS. Also, I know the 10/22 isn't ideal for defensive purposes because of it's small caliber, but I did include it in the poll because it is extremely common, has many part/accessory options, will lay down a lot of lead quickly (which most people wouldn't want to be hit with), and is useful for training purposes (it can be made to resemble both the AK and AR designs, among others).

I own only own one on that list(SKS), but there are a couple on there that I will own shortly.

The poll is flawed for the OP's stated purposes. there are likely multiple votes
from each responder. That "militia" person may choose either their AR or their 10/22 at any given moment. More piks for AR may just mean most of us have at least one.......
How come no Enfield/ Mosin/ Carcano ect on the check list?? :scrutiny:

I think the poll does just fine for the stated purpose. It gives a general idea of the type of arms located across America. Knowing the exact number of each rifle in each household wouldn't serve him any better. It's very similar to a Rasmussin (sp?) poll. It doesn't give exact sentiments of each person in each household across the US, it just canvases the nation for a general idea.

So now you know there is a 33% chance one of your "militia " buddies will have a spare mag, or astuck shell remover for your AK. ;)

Oh...that is good to know...When that film was done, I was already getting involved with the media as a photographer, then later on went freelance to get involved with films. I've met Croc Dundee personally at one stage but never worked with him. To us Aussies, he is just another bloke. I will get my copy of that Dundee film to take a look...

The idea of independant militias or bands of patriots roaming the country makes me think it is someone's idea that the US is going to completely fall apart, and the gun-owners of America will have to take the country back, house-to-house, one town at a time, engaging in massive firefights along the way. If such a thing happened, (the US collapsing entirely, not the house-to-house fighting civilian wet-dream) I think a more realistic result would be towns banding together to survive, and forming a psuedo-milita to reinforce the LE, and provide an additional layer of defense from road gangs, an unfortunate eventuality. If you are really interested in what your neighbors have, that's the time for some good 'ole meet and greet, or community organizing, not online polls canvasing the entire nation.

I, for one, might migrate to a warmer climate, but I would not be roaming the country, cleaning up each town along the way like some Clint Eastwood character. If the entire might of the US military cannot do such a thing in a country a fraction of the size of the US, how could one man, or small, marginally trained at best, groups hope to accomplish the same result?

I'm not trying to be rude......but....did you bump your head recently?
Real hard?
Are you seeing double? possibly blurred vision?
You are asking real personal questions to a lot of folks here; and mentioning issues which ( more than likely ) should be posted on something other than a R I F L E discussion forum.

Everyone needs a 700 AND 70 to know the difference.
70 must be of classic style

Khegglie, see post #33 in regards to your post #36 question about antique firearms.

Shadow Man, I think that if/when the U.S. falls to the powers of the global elite, it's going to be the LE and military that we're banding together against; like during the American Revolutionary War - not like in Mad Max.

Berettashotgun, please tell me where I asked any personal questions in this ANONYMOUS poll. Are you referring to this sentence from my first post?
Feel free to write a post stating which of your own rifles (listed within the poll options) is your favorite, and why.
Is that any more personal than anything anybody on this website has written about their own firearms in any other forum? Also, why would anybody need a classic-style Winchester Model 70? Because you think it's pretty? So you can hang it over your mantle and sit there gazing at it as you reminisce about the good ole days?

Seriously, I think this site is just full of old men who like to engage in meaningless debates without ever providing facts or logic to support any of their positions.

This smacks of conspiracy theories, and disturbes me greatly. If the average citizen is ever within his constitutional rights and finds himself engaged in battle with our own LE and Military, then we are in a bad, bad way.

These road gangs already exist. Ever heard of the Hells Angels? Mad Max is so unrealistic, it ranks right up there with Waterworld. If you want to be taken seriously, may I suggest avoiding such references? I hate seeing threads closed because good discussion and sharing turns into far-out talk bordering on crazy.

No better way to learn about something, quite often. Most of the posters on here provide experience and wisdom they have attained by having, to use a cliche, "been there and done that." The facts and logic are contained within those "meaningless debates." The Ancient Greeks considered debate an artform, and one of the most enlightened methods of communication. Just because the are ancient does not mean they didn't have a thing or two right ;)

The High Road isn't much of a place for "OMG, TSJHTF, time to shoot everything that moves and start rolling bodies"-like discussions, anyway.

#1. Hell yeah, a classic style Winchester model 70 is pretty.;) a classic featherweight is NICE!

#2. Negative on the "hang it over the mantle." It gets hot up there - thats how we dried socks, before Santa Claus anyways. :neener:, now I just wait around on some stocking stuffers - fruit/nuts and recently - denture adhesive.

Actually a model 70 is just like a Remington 700 with a really simple trigger when it is a pf style bolt.

But you do need to take this to the "Legal & Political" area of this site.
This area is about RIFLES ; not water guns....Ted Kennedy.....Ford vs. Chevy...political doctrine.....what brand of diapers are most absorbent...yada,yada,yada.
BTW, I'm just a smigen older than Mike Gundy.

Can we post the poll over on the "Dream" thread as my answer? ;)

I got 4 on the list, with the intention of upping that number.

If the blue helmeted zombies show up, one of my enfields would work just fine. If I survive more than 5 minutes, there will be plenty of tactical garbage to pick up.
