Well this is still my favorite site. I only have a few posts. But I enjoy reading words of wisdom too much.

Here's the scoop:

I conceal carry a stainless 1911 full size. It is my first gun. I have range practiced with it time and time again. I have always attempted to do things right. I get up in the morning, put one of two mags in, load, lock, put in my holster with strap over, then go about my day.

Sometimes, I get in a week cycle of not taking it out of holster and not unloading the mags. Is this bad?

When I am done carrying, I take it out of the holster, unload it, wipe down with silicone cloth. I routinely keep the rounds in the magazines until range time. So they stay loaded. I oil the rails, etc. once a week.

Am I doing enough? Is this overkill?

Pull the gun (loaded) out of the safe and put it in the holster.

Wear it about town (openly).

Pull it out of the holster at the end of the day and put it back in the safe (loaded).

It's not a good idea to keep chambering a round over and over.

The rails are greased so I don't do anything until I shoot and clean it.

pick out my uniform of the day

fumble with my comp-tac for 5-10 minutes and finally get it situated

grab gun from nightstand, make sure mag is full/inserted, round in chamber, hammer back

holster weapon and away I go after checking for concealment and if my arse is still tight like a tiger.

end of day, unholster, sometimes load up some snap caps to practice drawing/firing.

This question doesn't seem totally 1911 specific so here's my 2¢.

CZ75B my cycle starts at the range.

I unload my carry rounds, practice W/ ball then reload my carry rounds. When I get home I clean the weapon & reload the JHPs.

I don't unload the weapon again until the next week when I go to the range. I rotate the first round in the magazine so I don't get set back & since my CCW is also my HD it never makes the safe.

Routine....
Put on britches and belt.
Stuff 1911 in waistband.
Go places in truck or bike.
Remove 1911, remove britches/belt, wipe down 1911 ONLY.
Shoot ammo in back yard or range.
Leave gun cocked/locked, otherwise.
