I keep my Glock 9mm because it is small and easy to tote around the house. I have a loaded 870, 12ga, with buckshot in the gun case... I would take that over the Glock any day, granted I have some extra time to retrieve it.

Ditto on the poll. Next to my head: Steyr S9, under the edge of the bed: Mossy Persuader w/ 1*3" #000+7*2 3/4" #00, in the dresser 3 .38 revolvers.

M&P 40 with night sights, CT laser grip, and Streamlight TLR-1 in a mini-GunVault. That's the gun in my nightstand. The longarm arsenal is in the bedroom too.

You did say "bedside", so that would be a semi pistol. You didn't ask about the area just above the headboard and you'll have to check the other similar thread to find out what I had to say about that. ;)

My SA-XD40 is always on my nightstand when I'm asleep. I keep it chambered with an extra 12 round magazine loaded. Within 6 feet of my bed, I can access my 12 gauge shotgun, Mossberg 500 18" barrel with #1 buckshot, 5 in the tube, 5 more on the side-saddle.:D

4" 686

Hydra-Shok .357.

If I can't get it done with 6 rounds or less, I really don't need to be doing it in the first place.

Springfield Loaded with night sights right next to me. A S&W 29 44 mag & Rossi .357 mag within 4 feet, AR-15 within 6 feet. If I need more than that, I'm in SERIOUS trouble.

There's usually one of three Ruger .45 ACP's near me when I sleep. There's usually three or four shotguns not too far away either. 2 of my 870's and my Mossberg stay loaded and cruiser ready in the safe. The other shotguns are long barreled bird guns and stay unloaded. Handgun on the bookshelf near the bed at night (basically when my carry weapon comes off that is where it goes). Another .45 loaded on the shelf in the unlocked (at night) safe, with the aforementioned shotguns standing below it. Occasionally a shotgun will do actual bedside duty.

Hi Power. 17 Hydra-Shocks ready to go. If I need more than that and 2 big dogs, I'm in trouble.

4" S&W Model 10 .38 Special loaded with 158 grn LSWCHP +P

I like a revolver for this duty as it can stay loaded indefinitly without any springs being under tension. I also like a revolver because there are no safeties to forget to off in a critical moment. With it's long yet smooth double action trigger, the Model 10 won't be going off unintentionally yet I can still shoot it well. I like the Model 10's low profile fixed sights for this use as well.
For me, a revolver is the perfect bedside quick response weapon.

I like revolvers for bedside guns. Heck, I like them for daily carry too. :)

My 87 year old mother has a revolver in her nightstand. She hasn't cleaned it, oiled it, or changed the ammo in over twenty years. One thing I know for sure, it will go BANG if she ever needs to use it. I did try to change the ammo for her, resulted in an arguement. She wants what she wants and she's old enough to get it.

Don't let her age fool you either. She ain't as "spry" as she once was, but she can take care of business. She likes the load in her bedside gun and has fired a bunch of it in past years.

Just for grins and giggles I'm considering a Kimber Desert Warrior as a "bedside" gun. I also have a shotgun and a pistol caliber rifle handy, so you might say I'm "prepared", whatever that means.

I switch between the cheapest and most reliable; 92FS or XD-40

Over the weekends I like to have the BBQ gun out, a SA 1911 Mil-Spec Champion .45acp... similar to Al Pachino's 1911 in the movie "HEAT".

I keep the 3 pistols loaded, with extra mags and a few mags of rifle ammo in case of total SHTF, most of the time secured in the safe/rsc, but one at hand or accessable, what's the point of haveing a weapon if you can't get to it right ;)

i chose revolver 'cause the S&W 586 is closest, but the 12g coach gun is really only another foot and half away or so. but i find i tend to grab the revolver first...for the same reasons pointed out by previous posters.

On my wife's side a Glock 19 with night sites and an AR15. On my side a Glock 17 with laser grips and an AR15. Plus the 3 carry guns in my sock drawer.

The dogs may not be big, but do function as warning devices.

Do not intrude on the Jones house.
