If this has been done before please point me at the thread. Anyway I was wondering what people use for primary home defense. "Beside" may not be the correct term, so what is the gun closest to you when you are asleep in your house?

Winchester 1300 (Defender) 12 gauge pump shotgun w/ 18" barrell & #4 buckshot:fire:.

Santa Claus is bringing me a toy which will accompany the shotgun - SA XD40:).

My Glock 23 is on me until I go to bed, then it goes into the top drawer of my night stand. If anyone tries breaking into the house, the dog will let me know right away. I'm upstairs, so there's plenty of time to retrieve it and get into a defensive position.

one .32 at hand

one of Mr Browning's bestest, snoozin around under the nightstand

SWMBO counters that there's no Nobler Beast than the Bull (Taurus)

mine's closer.

besides that the Bull got stuck w/ a ring in his nose. that's got to hurt.

I'm the one who has to investigate bumps/etc in the night and I suck w/ revolvers

My S&W 686. At o'dark thirty, I like have something within quick reach without safeties and without an ultra light, short trigger pull. Plus, I do well with the 686 as it points very naturally for me. A shotgun may join the 686 in the near future, but the 686 is still the quickest and easiest to grab and put into action.

But it actually depends on what side of the bed I am on...

My side, 500 Mag, 460 Mag, 22lr single six, and a NAA 22lr stuck in the drawer

Wifes side, XD-45, 45 Colt

She did mention to me that we have no pistols upstairs today and that bothered her.

Looks like I'll have to go out and buy another gun :D

Glock 22 with light/laser for me. Used to be my p99 9 mil until I got the glock a few months ago.

6" bbl .357 DA revolver con speedloader near it.
BMF butcher's knife.

Mossberg 500 & Colt 1911

I'm afraid to have anything there that does not have to be chambered before firing. I am concerned about having a dream or something and firing the gun without being fully awake. Racking the scattergun, or the Colt requires both hands and enough strength/dexterity that I'm confident I need to be fully conscious to do so.

Converted Saiga 12 with 11 rounds of 00 buck and a .45 5in XD

I pity the bastard coming into my bedroom at night.

I had to just guess, and chose revolver, but I'm sort of unsure about which is exactly closer to me. I'll have to pull out the ole tape measure to see if either of the nines, the shotgun, or the rifle are actually closer than the .357 in my nightstand.

I have a Springfield 1911 and my wife has a Colt .38 revolver. A Benelli Nova 12 gauge is in the closet just in case.....

Couldn't vote, poll allows only 1 choice. Have 2 revolvers, 1 semi & 1 shotgun

There should be an option to select more than one. My pistol grip Mossberg 500 20 gauge slug gun is always there as my bedside gun, but my daily carry CCW Kel-Tec P3AT is usually right under the bed as well.

It changes for me. I always have a pistol available, but more often than not, I have a shotgun and/or an AR15 handy as well.
