Right now, it's an XD 45 Tactical w/ Straight Eights and an M3 (don't really like the light, but it was just sitting there). Loaded up w/ 10 rds. of 230 gr. Golden Sabres (thanks, Kali!). Pretty decent package of firepower, I think.

It depends. I rotatae my guns. right now it's a Glock 26 and a S&W 642. It could be anything from them to a 1911 in 3", 4" or 5", or a Glock 19 or a revolver in .357mag or .44mag depending on what day and month it is.

in the nightstand, a Springfield Champion 1911, a SureFire 9P and an extra-sharp knife .... my carry gun, a Kahr PM9, is just a few feet farther, in the top dresser drawer. And in case I'm ..uhhh ... in the reading room, I keep a Bond 9mm Texas Defender in the cabinet over the can ... there's also a loaded .38 stashed in the garage ...

you never know ...

when they kick at your front door,
how you gonna come?
with your hands on your head
or on the trigger of your gun?

Theres a semi auto and a revolver in the nightstand and a rifle and my old single shot shotgun beside the bed

Whatever guns I was carrying that day. If I carry two, both go in the nightstand.

And all my reloads (mags and speed loaders).

J frame or XD40sub, depending on what I was carrying that day. There's night sights on the XD, so if the J frame is on duty, it will likely be only until I get the safe open.

Xd 45 compact on the nightstand.

and 5 feet away I have my mossy 500 hanging up in the closet with 00 buck if for some god awful reason 14 Gold Dots aren't enough.

Often it has been my Sig 239 with Gold Dots and a spare mag but the 686 and the 1911 all camp there from time to time.

Springfield XD40 w/Springer Precision Combat Carry trigger job, barstock trigger bar, Don's Guide Rod with 22# spring, polished feedramp and Dawson Precision night sites (tritium vials by Trijicon). It's loaded with Winchester Ranger T-Series 180 grain JHPs. Sits right next to the Surefire 6P Defender with 120 lumen upgrade.

Currently, a Ruger P-89 with an eighteen-round mag and tritium sights. In times past I have used an M1A with a round chambered with 19 more in the magazine and, when the Red Army Faction was truly rambunctious, an M-16 and M-9, loaded. But those were The Bad Old Days.:scrutiny:

With kids in the house, even "gun-proofed" kids, everything is locked up.

There's a quick-open sport safe containing 2 auto handguns with night sights nearby.

The rest of the tools are in a big safe, and would require some time to acquire and load.

It's a compromise.
