Please correct me if I am mistaken, but during colonial times, weren't the men of the militia were expected to bring their own weapons? I'm OK with that today as long as the gubment provides me with plenty of practice and battle ammo, in this case 7.62x39 or Swiss 7.5x55.

Some hand grendades would be good too.

seen a lot of good choices, and even had mine named a few times, but for a real milita to be effective you would need more like 4 different types, like the ak and the sks, ofcourse who wouldent want an american made ,i mean we are americans for the most part arent we?have to have a heavy machine gun,.50 cal. would be nice in my view,i also think you would need someone on a long gun, have to have a long gun.as far as ammo i like the 762x39,i know there are a lot of good rounds being made, but i just think you can get the ammo easyer in differenyt placesnow i dont mean all for 1 person, you did say it was a milita right?

Actually checked on that, and you are right, it was expected that each head of household have a firearm and if mustered come to the town square with firearm in hand. So next week I guess I will have to start a thread "If you where called to defend your town, what out of your collection are you bringing, and how much ammo :p )

Yes - and that was one of the primary motivations behind the second amendment, being that a well equipped militia was considered essential to the preservation of liberty. A useful device whether the country is invaded from abroad or oppressed from within...

It's a glaring testament to the mediocrity of our schools when so many will actually put the "militia" clause forth as proof that the 2nd amendment does not support or guarantee an individual right, given that a militia was (and is) expected to be self-equipped.

I'm carrying my M4gery, and BHP clone. That way i can Battlefield pickup more ammo once my own 1000rds are out. I'll hand over my M44 and 91/30 to friends. I'm trying to work up a good scope mount for a Caracano so i can arm my G-Friend w/ her dads sporterized 6.5

1. Keep the consumable supply chain simple, so 5.56 and STANAG magazines
2. Simple and few robust parts aka AK
3. FAL style adjustable piston system
4. Rail mounted iron sights as BUIS and simple 1x or 4x optical sights
5. AR style ergonomics
6. Easy to clean and detail strip
7. As few composite or synthetic parts as practical

Ooooh just described my XCR....

I think $30-40 is more realistic (from the factory to my hands with some mark up) I know I'd buy one if sombody made one at that price

+1 for drgong on the "buyback"

Well I know in the old days you could get Ravens for $35, but there has been inflation and cost of metals have gone up.

at $35 to FFL with a MSRP of $75, many FFLs would let you walk away with one for $50.

My militia rifle would be an M2 on a omni-directional mount in the bed of a mud running truck, with 20mm boxes full of linked .50cal.
with a mortar mounted on the tailgate
...

What? someone would need to provide covering and indirect fire support.

Primary: Remington 700 with 100 rounds

Secondary: M4 with 1 beta-mag and 10 extra mags

Backup for prim and sec: AK47 with 10 mags

An improved SKS. Put peep sights on it and chamber it for 5.56mm. Move the safety away from the trigger guard. Use a synthetic stock with a better LOP. It should use standard 5.56mm stripper clips. Try to stamp even more parts.

A box magazine is something else for the average idiot to lose, forget, or put together wrong. If you don't have a magazine for your AR/AK/FAL/etc, you've got a very hard to load single shot. Not so with an integral magazine. It doesn't have anything in common with the AR, other than ammo and stripper clips. So what? The goal is to provide a simple, reliable, easy to manufacture rifle to citizens. Everything else is just icing.

Nothing like a pipe dream now and then to make you think.
